Are they REALLY that bad? - Beejy
I need to change my car soon and having looked at the available options the Nissan X-trail seems to be the best match to my needs.

However, I'm a bit worried by rum reviews of turbo/intercooler and general reliability problems.

But are they really that bad? Or is it just a case of 'only those with a problem write in'?

My current car is a bit of a Friday afternoon model (VV unreliable) and I don't want to replace it with another lemon.

I can't answer for anyone one else's vehicle, but my X-trail has been excellent. It has done 117,000 km and I bought it new. The only 'problem' has been a timing chain tensioner changed under a recall.
I am so satisfied that I will be ordering another in a couple of weeks.

I have just read a report in Auto Express, who have had an X-Trail on long term test for 12 months covering 24715 miles .The only expense being 2 front tyres after 21000 miles and the only complaint being poor radio reception in certain areas.
I owned a 02 petrol X-Trail for 3 years from new and had no problems I then got a new 2.2 diesel for 18 months without any problems , the only reason I changed was due to a snapped achilles tendon and I needed an automatic. I now drive a Qashqai CVT petrol Auto which is first class also.
I hope that this is of use to you

Not at all - my 04 T spec 2.5 petrol 4 cyl is perfect , fully loaded , comfortable and versatile.
If you can find one at the right spec / colour / price I'd seriously consider it .

Thanks for your replies.

It's encouraging to hear some positive reviews of the car - all the ones I ever seem to see are bad!

I think the diesels are the problem - stick to petrol

I am on my 2nd xtrail.
My son is still running my old one.
On the 2004 model i had to have the intercooler changed, a common fault.
A new design was fitted, been perfect since.

Buy one just make sure the car has had any recalls carried out.
