97 1.2 - Turns over but will not start - gingerwhinger
Help - My 18 son's 97 Clio 1.2 has broken down, apparently it lost power ( no undue noise ) and stopped.
I have checked the usual suspects - fuel etc as a matter of course. The problem is that now the car is back on the drive I cannot get it to start. There is a healthy spark at the plugs and fuel is getting into the fuel injection system at the fuel inlet- beyond that nothing.

Any help or suggestions would be welcome - I have read a number of posts but most seem to be a problem with running rough or taking time to start - I cannot even get that far.

sounds very much like cam belt.Had a clio recently that was turning over and wouldn't start that turned out to be starter motor but this doesn't tie in with losing power.

When was the cambelt last changed?

Check the cambelt condition and has not slipped (timing marks aligned). If the belt has slipped, or worse broken, then it will be a cylinder head off and overhaul job. It is unlikely that the valves will have escaped bending so just replacing the belt will probably not get the engine running satisfactarily.
