Hi all,
Looking at buying a mk3 GTI - as car detail above. On the sellers advert it says:
"Also still has original engine restriction at 5000rpm proven from ecu test that was replaced sept 2008 so the car has never been driven fast."
Any ideas? Was there a 5k RPM limit on the GTI?
Cheers,
James

There is no electronic rpm limiter on my mk3 8v GTI that I know of, but there is little point in going over 5700 as there is nothing more to come and the AGG 2l engine was always a bit rough and unsophisticated.

i love a bit of valve bounce before i weigh a scrapper in

A quick google reveals that the 5K limit is a common problem and is a fault! Could be either ignition timing, valve time or the Hall sensor in the distributor. This seller either knows its a fault and is trying to get rid or simply believes that it should only rev to 5K. I'd steer clear.

yup - golf gti forums said the same. Looks like the guy is a "trader", at least he doesn't want to many V5's in his name.
Thanks chaps.

Mind you being an owner of a Golf GTI 2.0 8v who recently had a dyno run, you don't actually get a lot more ooomph over 5k revs anyway.
How many miles has it done?

Hiya
No idea - I didn't buy that one. Bought a really late model shine one - 76k on the clock - and no 5k rev limit...
Cheers.
