Problems with putting the soft top down - Iggy
Hi all

I am having problems every time i want to put the roof down. It gets stuck on half way and doesn't want to go down and then somehow, after numerous attempts to push, pull and etc, it goes down.

But i still do not know the techinque.

Is it how it should be or something wrong with the roof?

Ah yes, had this many times when I worked with these.

Its usually one of two things - either the hood folds up wrong or more commonly the frame jams as it can get a bit twisted over time.
Usually a bit of a wiggle sorts it or carefully making sure the hood folds correctly as it goes down.

As you lower the hood you need to grab a hold of the bar that is getting stuck (you can't actually touch the bar itself as the canvas is in the way but you can hold onto it through the fabric ok) and keep it pulled up as high possible to allow the necessary bits of the hood to fold underneath it, the roof will then drop smoothly. I can promise you that there's nothing wrong with the car it's just something to get the hang of.

Check out www.mg-rover.org for much better information and descriptions than I can give, also you can get a strap that holds the bar in place for you but once you've got the nack it's a waste of money IMO.
