2003 1.2 Emulsified oil on filler cap and the tube - daughters_with_cars
Clio 1.2 , 2003 , only 36000 miles but signs of emulsified oil on bottom of filler cap and up the tube. My immediate thought is to walk away , especially after test drive the car feels a bit gutless. I know from experience the old Fiestas pre-Zetec were awful for emulsified oil due to design of rocker cover, and am very wary of car suggesting blown head gasket after having to deal with a couple in the past!

... but , not all signs of emulsified oil are due to blown gaskets ...

Walk away - right or wrong ? I think I'm right.

03 1.2 2003 1.2 Emulsified oil on filler cap and t - Vinnychoff
in the old days short journeys or duckhams oil caused this but if you say that the engine is not performing then that is a good indicator. if you are really interested and can get the price down take the time to compression test or look at the plugs. maybe a trip to a mot place where you can put on the co meter might detect it not running correctly.....

It might be due to condensation from short journies but wouldnt expect to see too much. What is the coolant like - any signs of water loss i.e. low levels or incorrect strenght that has been topped up frequently?

Clio 1.2s are not known as head gasket blowers. Its a solid little lump (cam belt and water pump aside). I would say its short runs. Yes the 8 valve 1.2 is a bit gutless.
