Jus come back along the A45 in Northants with a white dust hanging over the road. Eventually caught up with a gritter throwing loads of damp but dusty salt onto the road.

Is this the 'new' salt they bought when they run out in the snow in Feb? It covered the car and wheels, looks much more harmful by the way it gets everywhere.

The spreaders were out on the A404 in Wycombe last night on way back home.

Live about a mile from A45/M1 junction. Outside an hour or so ago to put the bins out and thought (clear sky, zero wind etc) that we were set for a frost.

No surprise that the Council were gritting.

They gritted in Leicestershire on Saturday night. The temperature outside at 7am BST was -1deg C but there was no frost on any parked cars or the grass.

At least we havent got anyone blaming the councils lack of gritting for causing their accident - yet.

they where on the A66, with what looks like, and sounds (as i drove through it to get past the gritter) normal grit.

Just the a66 was done though, and it was getting to be freezing, as about 1am sunday morning the car outside temp display was reading 0.5 (+)

Looked the car over tonight as it hasn't been used since we got back 2 days ago, and where mositure has got into the white 'dust' it has marked the paint. Washed and polished it so hopefully no permanent damage.

However, if the councils have tonnes of this stuff bought as a panic buy, it may not be used agaian til the autumn. It definitlyl is less friendly to cars than the more commonly used 'grit'.
