Car is coming up to three years old and so the warranty is almost up. I am debating whether or not to take out an extended warranty. The official Citroen warranty is around £350 and seems to have too many exclusions. However I came across this warranty from Tesco - £259 - seems pretty comprehensive and covers wear and tear.

Anyone had any experience with Tesco or tried to make a claim?
Is it worth taking out an extended warranty? Car in question is a Citroen C4 - 50,000 miles - currently do around 15k a year. Car has been reliable so far but am thinking what the mileage racking up could may be worthwhile.

A sudden change in my circumstances means that I too may be hanging on to a 3-year old car (renault espace) longer than I thought. Done the usual checeks with warranty covers and fancy the Tesco one too - and they give MOT insurance included too.
Warranty Direct called me after doing teh on line quote to affer me 15% off startight away - said no, and they rang back 3 days later with 20% off - still higher than Tesco and limits to payouts and no MOT cover included.
I'm interested to hear too BR's....

Does appear good for vehicles just out of warranty. Lots of limitations/exclusions though. I bet they find a way to wriggle out of a high percentage of claims. Remember, you still have to service the car to make the warranty viable. And its only for a year.

Like all warranties or insurance only worth taking out if the possible loss you are insuring would be financially catastrophic to you. If not stick the premium away in a bank account and build up a fund yourself to pay out those unexpected bills.
Insurers need to make a profit and my guess is that only around 60% at most of the total premiums will be paid out in claims

OP drives a Citroen - Get the Warranty!
If it was a Subaru or Honda, then bank that cash!

....... covers wear and tear.
It depends on the level of the policy ~ Value Cover 8, Standard Cover or Finest Cover ~ and all of them state circumstances under which wear and tear is excluded.

Just remember that these firms are not in business to look after your interests(irrespective of their adverts)but to make money for themselves!

Its like all other after market warranties when you really read it closely there are so many get out cluases how can you exclude pipes when covering a fuel system who determines what is corrosion or the anti freeze level when its all over the road we don't cover the hire car for the first 24hours .These policies are a licence to print money I would like to see someone claim £1500 when they themselves have authorised it in Italy.A genuine extension of warranty provided by the manufacturer is going to be better option.

In this instance you don't need to read the terms and conditions that closely. With all 3 available levels of cover, the items which are covered and those which aren't covered are all clearly stated. It couldn't be any clearer.
