Agree, what was the reason for the recall?
|
Hi, the recall was the abs brake unit, the garage done a visual health check and noted timing chain noise.
What is it about faulty timing belts ?
Cheers Shug
|
it was faulty chains and it was specific years/range if it falls outside of that range then vauxhall (any main dealer) wont pay for rectification

Hi, can any1 help.. I have recently bought a 2004 Corsa C SXi 1.2, and gess what, the Timing chain is making a load ticking noise like a diesel car once it warms up. I have contacted Vauxhall and they claim they have heard nothing about a recall on Timing chain and they say my car is not due a recall on timing chain, its had a recall on ABS.
I have been to my local Vauxhall and contacted the customer service helpline, both say its not due a recall.
Can i get it fixed under recall as its a common problem on these cars?, can my car get more damaged if i carry on driving it?
Thanks guys

its not a recal issue its a poor servicing issue
|
Too long service interval or 5w30 oil?
|
I reckon its because if 2 things- Vauxhall went to eco servicing ie 20000 miles/ 2 year servicing. On a timing chain engine. That takes not much more than 3 litres of oil. Madness. And Joe Bloggs thinks its only a Corsa, why does it need fully synthetic oil?

When our Corsa was in for a service a year ago the Vauxhall dealer did a check without me asking to see if chassis number or engine number was in the Vauxhall specified range for either ABS wiring fix or timing chain replacement, so presumably all franchised dealers know which cars are affected.
|
a "Recall" is only related to safety items and the manafacture is duty bound to try to contact all owners of vehicles in the affected range, all dealers (vauxhall) put the reg number into the company website to see if any outstanding recall's are relevant to that vehicle, the chain issue was not as i remember an actuall recall as such they just replaced the chains as and when the timming chain was noisey/reported. The timeing chain will eventually work through the casing (normally the water pump area) causeing all sorts of complications so get it sorted sooner rather than later, Regards TB
|
How long do you think a noisy timing chain will last untill it eventually work through the casing...the noise has just recently started.
|
sorry aint got a clue, the ones that i see need changing but no idea how long they have been rattling, in fact most customers dont know that they should not sound like they do the noise seems to creep up on them, regards TB

my Yreg corsa just stopped this week, the timing chain has gona and most probably damaged the valves and who knows what else!! I've had quoted 900 for repair after an initial £150 to strip down and inspect all damage, before anything is actually repaired!! Is this about right? new quote £700 for the lot!!
My engine has been making a noise for a while, bit like a diesel engine but had no idea it was this serious otherwise i would have got it sorted ages ago!!!
is the damage likely to be really bad??
|
Will have bent valves probably, the noise you describe was the warning point the chain needs doing, mine does tick a bit but I don't want to change a chain unless it really needs doing. The 3 pot 1.0 always soudna bit like a diesel though.
How many miles has your engine done? It might be better to think about getting a new engine but then that can be a lot of hassle.
|
Hi charlotte87, you say your timing chain just went this week, i was wondering how many miles it lasted you untill it stoped since it was noisy...
Any1 out there who can fix this timing chain problem and how much do u charge, live in manchester. cheers
|
Cruzer, your engine is on borrowed time. You cannot put a time scale on how long it will last before the chain snaps, cuts its way through the cylinder head, etc.
It needs sorting ASAP.
ps, putting my moderators hat on for a second, can I ask that you refrain from the 'txt' talk in your posts - thanks. DD.
|
pps,
An earlier Corsa being referred to, but *could* well be the same problem.

Its done about 80,000 miles altogether, i noticed the noise about 6 weeks ago (i know, i know, i should have got it sorted) i've got someone looking at it this week!
|
Just found out that all 16 valves have gone as has the head gasket, my brakes need sorting too, can anything else go wrong, gonna cost a fortune!!! :-(

A lesson for all the rattly corsa"s that pass me every morning on the way to work i think
personally seeing as you need a new head and chain etc i would consider this engine scrap charlotte and would seriously consider either a new car or a new engine

Get a 2nd hand head from a breaker - fit it with new chain kit, gaskets bolts etc. should be a lot cheaper.
I replaced the chain kit on my wifes 1.0 Corsa. Upon inspection it seemed to me that the tensioner was at fault - the new one has a much stronger spring and a longer piston, so puts more pressure on the chain.

Does anyone know anyone that would be willing to do my timing chain on my 2001 (51 reg) 1.0 12v 3 cylinder Vauxhall Corsa C
I'm based in London but can travel to get my car done
only reason I ask is because its sounding a little rattly and don't really fancy giving a garage £600 to replace it
i'm quite competent when it comes to doing stuff on a car, but the timing chain replacement is a bit complex for me, plus I don't have access to a crane or engine stand
so if anyone knows someone thats willing to do it for £100 or so (can negotiate price) tell them to email me on tupac36642@aol.com
cheers

i did one on a fiesta a couple of years ago, i didnt need an engine crane/stand....i did it engine in situ but it was a lot of trouble, and messy , alternator, starter motor, exaust, sump, timing covers all had to be removed and re assembled with new gasket set et al , all done without the use of a pit or car ramps, just a jack and 2 axle stands

hi, my Corsa is makin a funny noise, and on inspection by a mech, to;d me its rattly timing chain, i was scouring about on net and came across your post about faulty timing chains 04/05....my car is 05...it was recalled last year for ABS unit, i called Vauxhall helpline amd they said to book it in for an inspection at my local dealer and get them to send a report back to them and they'l see if they can do it for me on a 'good will' thing, (hoping that means cheaper) but not holding my breathe!!! would they have known from my reg if it fell into the 04/05 faulty batch??or do you think they may be just accidentally on purpose not telling me the truth??? yeah im a woman. dont trust the garage as far as i can through them!! what would you advise me to do? im actually getting a mech to look at it this wk.
please help!!! :-)

I got the impression from my local VX dealer they were checking a specific engine number / chassis number range from Vauxhall as Corsas came in for other work. They were then doing the chains for free if it was in the number range as it was an accepted faulty batch of chains. But this was a year or two ago when the 04/05 cars were still in warranty.

Hi, I bought a 51 plate corsa C 2 weeks ago and yesterday it broke down. Apparently it was the timing chain that has gone. I have done a bit of searching and as far as I can see, it seems I need a new engine, which I have had a quote for £500 fitted. My friend said he has heard about a corsa recall for the timing chains, does anyone know whether this is true? Would save a lot of money if I could get Vauxhall to cover the majority of the work!
|
Can I have your old engine?
Most Corsas die through neglect, by which time the timing chain is the least important issue.
Or bent valves even.
Worn out piston rings, knackered oil pumps, scored big end bearings are everywhere.
Nice car too, such a pity.
