2000 1.6 Cooling fan question - siddeni
Is it ok for the cooling fan to cut in when slowing down (say at the round about), after a high speed drive in the motorway (in these cooler months)? After a few minutes of stopping it cuts out automatically.

Where is your temp gauge?

Is the heater hot?

If all ok thats ok.

bigtree, thanks for the reply.

temp gauge is in the middle and heater is hot.

One more question, is it ok for the cooling fan to cut in while driving at the high speed??

Just had thermostat and radiator replaced because of overheat problem at higher speed, now it looks ok. Only thing is that before fan used to cut in and temp gauge use to go towards red, now only fan is cutting in - I hear it when slowing down but not sure if it is on all the time. Hence the question - if it ok for the cooling fan to cut in while driving at the high speed?

Try a brand new rad fan switch for the sake of a few quid that will give you better peace of mind.

It is quite normal for the fan to cut in when slowing from high speed;the engine has been working hard and,as you slow down, the airflow thro' the radiator drops and the fan cuts in to keep the engine cool-it should not be running when driving fast-at least not in winter ambients. The fan will run all the time if A/C is on.
