David, I just want to congratulate you. You seem to be a helpful and concerned person from Renault. I take it you are fairly new to the company ?
How I wish there had been someone like you to talk to when I had my Espace back in 2002/2004........
Not being sarcastic by the way, I'm genuinely glad there seems to be a new attitude if your post is anything to go by. Keep it up, there are those of us who quietly rather like Renaults but would need a good deal of encouragement to return to the fold. (Speaking purely personally I might need hypnotherapy but that's another story...)

Mmm. I had a 1987 Renault 21, in 2000. I suppose, for a 13 year old car, it wasn't too bad. But I spent hours with multimeters and emery paper and changing electrical and other sundry components, and have never been more glad in my life not to have electric toys.
The engine which it shared with a Volvo was fine; the body which it donated to a tin worm was not...

Since my original post I have lost daily access to the Internet - now only available at the local library so I cannot contact David at Renault UK. I can be contacted on (David has noted Natty's number and is in contact, but I have removed it from here to reduce the likelihood of calls he doesn't want. HJ.)
Update since February. Front O/S again stops working. Repaired by Renault Oldham FOC at the same time I had a cam bely etc change.
Unfortunately now another prpblem. Not with a window that does not open when I want it to, the opposite. Parked the car, did some shopping, returned to car. Rear O/S window fully open (it wasn't when I left it). Two hours later it wound half way up (again the car was locked and parked) and then went all the way up on the switch. Thinking (hoping) it was a one-off I didn't take it further. Next day same again - winds fully down when parked and half recovers aftyer a few hours.
Current situation: door electrics disconnected and door locked using mechanical override. Not ideal but at least it is secure.
SQ, what is it with wanting to press the "quote original message" after writing your post?

Natty Bumppo, YOur problem IS the same problem with the regulator, the problem with the reg's manifests itself in various different ways but comes down to the same problem of water ingress into the regulators. Pop along to the MeganeOwnersClub.co.uk

Meh.
Build a car properly and there's no reason for electric toys to be unreliable.
Build it out of bits of tin foil and the contents of the back of the sofa, in a factory manned by French communists, and it's bound to fail.

Back in 1998 I had a 1986 R21 TXE complete with electronic dashboard. Engine was a bit ropey until id physically removed the gunk and flushed/changed oil several times, but all electrics worked, including the complete dashboard.
It was rust that was killing mine.

I was surprised to note the Scenic II I just sold, and still miss on occasion has come in 91st out of 100 in a popular magazine's satisfaction survey published this week, placing 99th for both reliability and build quality. These results are from models built between 2003 and 2009 which I was always led to believe was when the bulk of Renault's quality control issues were behind them.
Renault have a heck of a hurdle to overcome if they are to convince the public that their new generation of cars are well built and reliable. It reminds me very much of Rover in the Honda era where they built some truly decent cars. You still see as many, if not more R8 200s on the road as any equivalent aged Golf, Astra or Escort for example. Problem was, they'd spent so long selling stuff that fell to bits and broke down that all their former customers had moved elsewhere, and nobody cared any more, except for the brand loyalists who would have bought another one anyway.
I love the smooth, long legged feel of Renaults, rate their dCi diesels as among the very best in the world, and love the kind of "effortless cool" of the design, but they really need to get the basics sorted out and proven. I would hate to be reading about stupid problems like this on the Megane III or Scenic 2009 in a couple of years. Google Megane electric windows and the number of hits speak volumes. These are endemic, inherent faults, not isolated incidents.

After this one is fixed (hopefully not at your expense) I would strongly urge you to get rid.
Allegedly the 2006 facelift models were better.
I've not ruled out another Renault, there does seem to be evidence that they've pulled their socks up. We are looking at the new 2009 Megane but the 2.0dCi isn't available yet.

Below is an extract from a forum on the MeganeOwnersCLub.co.uk . I can't link it because you have to be a member to read it (free btw)
Hi All
I have a Mark III 1.5Dci privilege model and as posted on "Ownership Problems" I am NOT impressed.
This car overall has been the worst and most unreliable car I have ever owned in 25 years of driving. The car is actually being replaced by Renault as its soooooo bad!!!! My replacement vehicle is due July 2009.
I am impressed by the shape and external styling. Internally the digital speedo looks very 80's but is OK and easy to see. Comfort wise its fine but access to rear seats with those with mobility problems is very poor - theres not much legroom. The internal door handles on the front doors could be placed a bit further back for ease of opening the doors particularly when in a tight space.
The fabric on privilege seats looks good but catches every bit of fluff possible.
Fuel consumption is OK - it was better in my 1.5 Dci Qashqai though - which is a lot bigger car. I am getting 43 MPG - the Qashqai 50MPG
The build quality is a major concern though. I have faulty wiring loom - being replaced on Tuesday, faulty courtesy lights, fuses blown, retaining clips to fuel pipe renewal, glove box is warped and doesn't close. Dash isn't fitted properly, door rattles, water penetration in indicator on wing mirror, rear view mirror casing falls off ... the list goes on.
What I was very cheesed off about was that the 1.5DCi engine vibrated very badly from cold and sound like an aircraft taking off. It lasted for 20 mins and was worse around 1500revs. My car was in garage for 3 weeks until a fix was found by Renault France (bear in mind the car was brand new!!)- apparantly now all newly manufactured cars have this done as part of the manufacturing process which now includes this fix. If you are unlucky to have this problem in an early model of this car. Perhaps your dealer could advise. My dash and engine had to be taken out..... Total nightmare... The noise is still there although to be fair - much improved.
Having owned 9 Nissans, 2 VW, 1 x Peugeot and this Renault, sadly I will not be purchasing Renault again... When I get this new car I intend to trade it in - taking a hit in the pocket but I have lost all faith in the brand. Pity really because car is a vast improvement style wise on the Mark II - (Sorry guys but I didn't like the Shaking that ass big bum thing)
Sorry for this long post and mega moaning but I think I'm allowed
Cheers

Hi
AlexB - I have tried the refund thing but no chance!! - I haven't any more fight in me to be honest as I feel I have been through a wringer backwards with all this hassle - a replacement will do me OK. I am realistic to know that cars have faults - minor ones I can cope with - part of car ownership however, if the biggy ones happen thats a different kettle of fish. My hubby suggested that we get a few months of use of our new car then trade it in for a 59 plate (another marque) but we'll see.
Are Renault electrics really as bad and why oh why isn't it better publicised???
Ps - heard from a Renault mechanic that they had another Megane III in recently with a terrible rattle under the dashboard... Thank goodness its not only mine.
Keep you all posted how my new car goes.... You will hear me from a miles away if its ot up to scratch... Hope the dealership PDI this car better than the last one...
Fee x
Thanks for the advice AlexB
I intend trading the car in as soon as I get it - so problems wont be my look out... to be honest if dealership find any issues and fix them at PDI all well and good, they should be doing that in the first place - rather than sending out faulty goods.....
I know I will be taking a financial hit in my pocket but better that than a nervous breakdown with stress and worry. i am not naive enough to think that my new car wont have problems - it most probably will , but little ones as I said I can cope with... Not looking for a refund... just another vehicle.
It really is terrible that this is how I feel about my car - I hate it and just cant wait to get shot of it.
Car is back in today for faulty wiring loom to get done.... Guess what the courtesy car is - you'll never guess..... a Renault Kangoo....Yeuch - absolutely revolting - looks like a postman pat van.......
It is embarrassing - one neighbour actually thought it was my new replacement car from Renault... Heavens NO!!!!
Cheers

A car as bad as the one above shouldn't have made it past PDI. The dealer must take some responsibility for delivering such a pile of crap to a paying customer.
To an extent there are always niggles and problems with early production runs, but considering the marketing resource being ploughed into convincing us that Renault has turned a corner, one might have expected a little more effort than this.
Cheers

When I bought the Astra in 1994, I was worried that these new fangled electic windows would just cause trouble. In 15 years nothing happened to any of the electric components except an early radio failure. It seems it really does depend on the manufacturer. I'm hoping the Jazz will be just as reliable.

I agree it's disappointing but we should keep things in perspective. This is one reported occurence of a poor Megane 3. One swallow doesn't make a winter, or whatever the saying is.
I agree with the comment about the dealer PDI. In my opinion this dealer needs a good kick up the backside. And a hard one at that.
However, I shall monitor things and if a pattern emerges then I shall rethink my decision to buy one for the missus. As she wants the 2.0dCi, we have a wait anyway - it's not currently available. If there are any initial teething problems, hopefully they will be resolved by then.
