00 2.5 Intermittent starting problem - Roland T
My father in law has an intermittent problem with his Omega failing to fire.
It usually starts OK but sometimes will just turn over and over without firing.
The battery has been discharge tested and appeared fine. The car has been looked at by the competant local independent, who couldn't find anything wrong.
There could obviously be numerous causes. Does anyone with experience of this problem on this model have any suggestions for things to check first?
Many thanks.

if its a V6 crank sensor is the most common problem & if its the TD in tank fuel pump needs checking & crank sensor

If it is the crankshaft sensor it will more than likely eventually fail and car will not start.
The engine management computer then shuts down and shuts off spark and fuel.
In my case problem started with the occasional miss/cutout when driving coupled with failure to start on a cold morning, if left it would then start a day later. Then problem reoccurred occasionally until one morning it would not start.
Checked fuel pump was ok, no spark, checked resistance of crankshaft sensor which was very high/ open circuit.
Sensors are not expensive

It's the 2.5 petrol V6, sorry for the lack of clarity, I didn't realise the TD was the same capacity.
Thanks for the responses so far.

crank sensor

Another vote for crank sensor, I had intermittent starting problems on my first 2 litre Omega when the crank sensor worked slightly loose ( wouldn't start if the car was pointing steeply downhill ). Slight possibility of intermittent coolant temperature sensor as my second guess.
