Anybody got any ideas???

Under load I can not rev the engine beyond about 4500rpm... I have recently changed the battery and spark plugs. The HT leads aren't too old, neither is the coil. I thought about adjusting the timing but the dizzy body seems to have fused itself to the block....

If anyone has any ideas what could be causing this I would really appreciate some insight!!!

Cheers all.

Hiya

I'd be inclinded to do a compression check on it - that might show a timing issue.

Cheers for your reply James. My bro has a compression gauge so will give that a go. Do you know whether these Golfs are advanced enough to have a 'safe mode' within their ECUs? Wondering whether that could be a possibility?

Hiya

If you mean a safe mode aka a compression test mode? I wouldn't think so.

Pull the fuel pump fuse and take the 12v feed on the coil out. Therefore you don't damage the ignition system - or ignite the fuel vapour!!

You should get 108-188 psi ish compression.

Thanks for all the suggestions. It turned out to be a damaged CAT confusing the lambda sensor!
