307 HDi 2.0 02, I would like to charge my battery to see if it helps with my starting problem as posted previously, what is the correct disconection/reconection procedure? will i have to reboot the BSI unit as described in other posts? might there be any other issues? The voltage is 12.3V overnight at around - 2 degrees C, i have read that this could indicate a partially discharged state, would this have an effect on starting? thanks in advance.

The first thing to do would be to connect a voltmeter across the battery with the engine running, it should read near enough 14 volts, if it does and the alternator belt is not slipping it should be charging OK. If it is and you still have the original battery, its likely due for replacement.

Thanks for that PeterN, i have already checked that and the reading is around 14.3V so maybe a new battery is the next move, i think it may have been on the car from new.

What trouble are you having with starting? HDis seem to stutter and not want to start / run when the battery is a bit low. You could try checking the voltage when cranking the engine - less than 11v and it's pretty cactus.

Thanks for that I will check it and report back

OK geting closer i think, checked the battery yesterday at 11.00pm cold reading was only 12.1V and whilst cranking it dropped to around 10.?? to 11.?? and sods law it started before i could confirm the readings, so i think the battery is suspect, I'm sure that if it were on a car without ECU's etc it may be fine??

Take it to anywhere that sells batteries and get them to do a proper dump load test on it.
