I had a new battery and glow plugs about 13 months ago and its been fine up until the past week where its been below freezing. It would turn over but not fire up and drained the battery trying to start it. I took the battery off gave it a charge and its started for the past 3 morning although hard to crank up. But i think its coz the weather is warmer. Any ideas what it could be? I thought it could be the altinater but it has run for 3 days now?
Thanks sally :o)

Battery output falls with temperature, i.e the battery will put out a lot more power at 25c than -5c, but you need more power to start a cold engine (thicker oil etc)
How long did you charge the battery for?, I would give it a good 12 hours.
How long are your journeys?, your average journey with headlights, heater, wipers, heated rear window will need to be quite long to recoup the power used in starting
BTW, remember to leave radio, lights, heated rear window etc OFF before turning the key so maximum power is available for starting the engine

I have just gone out this morning and it wont start again. It had a good run yesterday so im wondering now if its the glow plugs? Is there any way of checking them? Im sure i only changed then around 6 months ago.
As for charging the battery i have a charger with an auto cut off once its fully charged
