I have noticed a knocking noise from rear of my C5, mainly when breaking, but seems to be getting worse. There is a Plastic Moulding across the width of the car which runs parallel to the rear bumper, between the bumper and the Boot, which appears to be loose. Any suggestions?

You could ckeck the moulding and see if there any screws/clips missing (I assume its held on at some point so you can see what would be missing) - if there is then get replacement clips/screws and fasten it back on and see if the sound goes away.

Further to my previous topic on "Noise from rear " of C5. We now find that the rear caliper seems to have misaligned and is fouling the inside of the wheel.
Has anyone else had problems in this area ?

It's not uncommon on C5s and Xantias. It's caused by corrosion between the brake caliper and its mounting. The cure is to remove the caliper(which can be done without removing the fluid pipe), cleaning the joint faces with emery cloth or similar, applying something like coppaslip to the faces and re-assembling. New brake pads will be needed because the ones fitted will have worn into a wedge shape.
Don't leave it for long before it's attended to. It has been known for one of the caliper retaining bolts to shear due to the extra load on it.

hi my local citroen dealer said my rear callipers need sorting out as corrosion had set in and misaligned the rear callipers due to salt in winter and wanted £350 to sort it out! my c5 estate has 20000 on the clock and is just 2 years old after reading honest johns reviews i re negotiated and the dealer offer to repair free of charge i think citroen must realize that this is a trading standard issue eg not fit for the purpose ect so if u get this problem go in and quote sale of goods act ect ps top marks for citroen small heath birmingham for this offer without any fuss !! sevice must take them in some beers ! chris webby.

Just an update on this thread my C5 estate 2002 had the same pronlem. I got my guy to clean the calipers and hey presto problem solved...after two years of scratching heads I found the answer on this website many thanks!!
