1995 1.0 Car won't start after changing the stereo - adam f
some urgent help needed here please.

My friends younger brother has a Mreg polo. We went to put a new stereo in for him yesterday but it did not go to well.
The wires were in a terrible state and we couldnt wire the new one into them properly. so we put his old one back in but now it does not work.
Anyway now the car will not start.
The battery is not flat (put a multimeter on and reading was fine) and all fuses are in tact. The only way for the car to start is for us to 'bump' it.
We are going out of our minds now - PLEASE HELP

So if you bump it it runs OK ??. I assume the engine cranks over on the starter but does not start. You have either damaged or storted a waire ot popped a fuse. time to take the radio back out and investigate. Regards Peter

Yes it runs fine once bumped. Engine cranks over. Would the the radio wires really stop a car from starting?

if it started okay prior to you playing with the radio wires and it don't start now logic says its something you have done but goodness knows what the radio should be connected to an ignition feed wire perhaps you have pulled the wire of the back of the ignition switch

If it cranks but won't start, then starts with a bump; I'd check that you are still getting a feed to the coil when it's cranking.

As TB says; ignition switch.
