94?? 1.1?? what is this noise???? - Dynamic Dave
Can you give us a clue where the noise appears to be coming from?

Engine bay?
Inside the car, behind the dash for instance?
Front offside or nearside?
Rear offside or nearside?

AN Other?

Any chance you know what model of Ford?
94?? 1.1?? what is this noise???? - Rattle
If it is a 1.1 it has to be a Fiesta, assuming it is a European car.
94?? 1.1?? what is this noise???? - piston power
Alternator belt commonly known as the fan belt?

A little more information will help us, ie: front or rear? which side? turning corners? etc.
my car...update - fastkab
the car is a M reg 1.1, got 33k on clock.

The noise seems to be coming from (outside car) front wheels and i initially started looking around at other cars when hearing it thinking it was someones breaks. Today whilst in the car I ONLY HEARD TO NOISE ONCE then it stopped. it sounds like a high pitched ringing/squeeking, and when i accelerate or break it goes away. Steering does not seem to cause the sound nor does changing gear. I bought the car from an old couple in june and I swear it came from a museum!! They have issued me with EVERY reciept from the day it was born for anything bought and done to the car. The car passed it's mot with no advisory and to be honest I was expecting a fail as the car only cost me £250!!! Just due to the fact the car was soo cheap and cos it has sat for such a long time unused, I did get the battery and alternator changed for new so I had the peace of mind nither were not going to fail on me in the middle of the country on a dark cold night!

so you lot, any ideas????/

thanks!!

There was never a 1.1 Ka.

{nor was the KA introduced until 1996 - D'oh on my part. Was only using it as an example of different Ford models though - that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it ;o) - DD}

No-but it could have been a "cherished" number!

An "M" registered 1.1 had to be a Fiesta;the 1.1 Escort was discontinued early 80's if I remembr rightly. It came out originally as 1.1 CVH,quickly replaced by 1.1 OHV. and then dropped except possibly in Italy.

AFAIK there was always a 1.1 OHV, it was the 1.3 CVH which was replaced by OHV equivalent.

Almost certainly fan belt. Common fault.. Fixed by either tightening it or: as it is proabably the original.. replacing it.

Takes about 3 minutes to tighten, 10 minutes to change.
Parts cost about £7.
Total cost at a friendly garage should be under £30..

Or get a knowledgeable friend do it for a drink (competence essential)..

Particularly as it has just had a new alternator.
