04 1.5 Environment filter - Que
Hi guys

Advice please. My wife has a Modus and the day after getting an MOT teh engine management system light came on and we have established its something to do with an environment filter. The car runs fine but a local mechanic (not authorised Renault dealership) has told us it needs a new filter that will cost £169.

The car is 4 years old and has done about 60k miles. It the DCi diesel model.

Has anyone else had this problem and does £169 seem reasonable if you have had one replaced?

Cheers

What is being described as an "environment filter?"

Do you have the actual code number or exact wording?

Right I have asked the mechanic.

He says its the ERG valve that is showing up as failing on teh computer.

I beleiev this satnds for Engine Gas Regulator.

Now he says he has taken a part off eth exhaust and cleaned it but its still showing up on computer. He thinks its teh solanoid that has gone on the electrical end ie there is no clicking sound when the engine is turned on.

Problem is that if we order the part at £169 and its not that the where do we go from there?

Sorry my spelling is awful in the entry above.

and I am not too good with technical car stuff!

That makes a bit more sense - although there are many different codes for the various failure modes of a EGR [Exhaust Gas Recirculation] valve.

Very common fault on those; I'd need the exact code to be more specific as to whether it needs a new one.

Sorry to be thick but is that the fault code or the part code

I understand now its the fault code.

the garage say they did not store it but it was the solanoid that was faulty and it was not clicking. ie they say its an electrical fault

Does that help?

If that's all there is to go on; then it looks as though replacement is the only option.
