After a rear end shunt from a Range Rover, my Focus is in the garage for repairs. (insurance approved place). I have been told by a none mechanic friend as it was a bumper that's cracked and the boot lock damaged it may be chassis damage, as I have a tow bar fitted and the RR didn't actually make contact with the car itself!
Now, its a 1999 (T) 1.8 tddi LX with over 100k miles on the clock, if the insurance decide to write it off, as a purely rough estimate, what am i looking at?
I have no dealings with insurance to fall back on, and want a fair price. I always thought that they have an obligation to put you in the position you was in before any accident?
Wouldn't that mean finding an exact (or close) car to replace mine. I have seen a Y plate that's obviously newer, but at £2500 is it realistic to hold out for that sort of cash from insurance?
Sorry its long winded, any advice appreciated.

i cant see any insurance company offering over £1000 for a 9yr old focus.
you may have a long fight on your hands to recover what you need to be put in the same position

When my dad crashed his Punto they offered £1100 which refused because the car was only 6 years old at the time. It was an SX model and they said you could buy an S for £1100. We wrote them a letter explaining the huge difference in spec between the two models and they then offered us £1550 which we accepted. We had so much receipts for all the work done on the car etc which we argued also made the car worth more.

My 2001 Y octavia was destroyed in a hit and run recently, good condition fsh but 140k on the clock. My insurance payed out £3400 less £150 excess, apparently after they checked online. I was so shocked i forgot to haggle. Took a week or two but found 52 plate same model, colour and condition for £2500.
