Afternoon all, i've just joined and looking for some help.

I'm unlucky enough to own a face lift vectra on a T-plate, which i believe has the x18 xe1 lump. The coil/dis going across the head with no leads.
Anyway, the trouble i'm having is, that when i'm in neutrel and revving the car around 2k revs, it seems to be missing. The EML is on, but the car still drives pretty good, no missing whilst driving, lurching etc. Only seems to miss whilst revving in neutrel! I've read loads of threads and posts about re-earthing the maf etc, about egr valves, but both of these seem to be working fine. I have re-earthed the maf though just incase. I tried my neighbours egr valve and the problems still there, and when i disconnect the maf with the engine running, it dies down almost cutting out, so it must be working?
I've checked and cleaned as many breather/air pipes as i can, stripped and cleaned the throttle body all to no joy. I've checked the plugs which are coverd in black soot/carbon, which i thought meant a lean mixture? The filters are both good and clean, and new plugs recently.

Any ideas whats wrong as it's driving me nuts! And need it done asap for the dreaded M.O.T comming up..

Cheers all

mike

The MIL is on; get the codes read, recorded, wiped and read again. Otherwise you'll be chucking parts at it forever.

The X18XE1 engine has the ECU mounted on the inlet manifold - has yours?

Yeah, it's got the ECU on the right hand side of the manifold, looking at it from the front.

I've read the codes doing the paper clip test and got these :
0505
0100
1405
0403
0110
0443.

Tbh though i think these codes maybe because i disconnected the MAF, egr and purge valve, whilst the engine was running a few times. Would they dissapear after re-connecting though?

I've thought about inlet manifold gasket, but after stripping that this morning, the gasket seems ok,although i havent replaced it yet to see what happens

OK; those look to be mostly from random unplugging. Did you also unplug the speed sensor?

Clear those codes; make sure everything is connected, cause the fault, don't touch anything and see what comes back.

Ok, think i'll have to. Any idea how much it costs to clear the codes?

Doesn't the paper-clip method have a clearance function? Not something I've ever had to use.

Unplug the ECU?

The speed sensor? Dont think so as i dont know what that is,lol.

Not sure if the paperclip method has a clearance fuction, never heard it has, but i'll do some research.

I've unplugged the ECU to get the manifold off so i'll see what happens when i bolt things back up.

Cheers for the help.

Not that I'm aware of, but mentioned over on vauxhallownersnetwork is to disconnect the battery for ½ to 1 hour.
