Saw my 1st new Vectra in the flesh, wow - what a boring looking car (with a natty chrome bit at the back). Personally I don't think the Astra looks too bad, but this is just a stretched version which looks out of proportions, badly styled headlights...
Taking it a but further don't you think that the new Saab 9-3 (now only going to be a saloon, which IMHO is a bad move on GMs part) looks a bit like the old Vectra?
I don;t know who they were aiming those ads at but they haven't worked on me.

While the new Vectra is a larger car dimensionally than the Astra, it doesn't use the space as well so is no bigger inside. Ok, the back seat is wider so would give more room to the middle passenger, but most cars are rarely 5-up. I was going to change my 2000 Astra for a new Vectra until I saw it in the metal. Even the Vectra Elite has very few goodies over my Astra CDX (with options) although a 3.2 V6 would be nice if I owned an oil well.
All other markets, except the UK, buy a majority of saloons rather than hatches, so it's hardly surprising that Saab build what Europe and the US want, not the UK.

Im dieing to see the new 9 - 3 convertible when it comes out as I was going to buy the current model until I discovered it was to be replaced.
As regards the Vectra, it's looks are a little conservative but its growing on me.

Hmmm,
It will be interesting to see if ANYONE buys this car. The company car market is dead (thanks Gordon) and buyers using their own money would rather have their teeth pulled out than buy a Vauxhall, and who (privately) could live with the depreciation? Unless its cheap as chips ala the Citroen C5 I think they might as well give up now...

Someone bought one - saw it on the A14 this evening. Couldn't work out what it was from the back - I could see the outsize Vauxhall griffin, but still wondered whether it was some low volume US import, rebadged as a Vauxhall, which I hadn't heard about. I think the chrome strip confused me.... Not really sure what to make of it - I reckon the headlights are too small, but the rear end styling is a lot more distinctive than the old Vectra.

I'm currently driving a 2000 year Vectra which is on a 20k mile service interval which I found amazing - as it's a lease vehicle they won't pay for any servicing outside the normal schedule. I'm sure this will hit residuals even more and I was even more amazed to be told by my dealer that the new Vectra diesel can go 30000 between services. I'd always thought that Diesels needed more frequent oil changes!

I've seen a few of these bricks on the road now and my first opinion (when viewed about 2 wks ago) was "Jeez what the hell is that? That is Ugly!" Then I saw the badge and it made me think that the ad was using camera trickery as it din't look that bad on the tele. I thought this was possibly the ugliest car in it's sector and then I saw the Nissan Primera.
I'm glad I'm not in the market for this sort of car because they just get uglier.... I reckon the people that'll be happiest with the new motors from Vauxhall & Nissan will be Renault, cuz their Laguna wipes the floor with these.

You'll find that the service interval is actually either 20k or yearly. Whichever comes first.
