Black box in cars such a thing? i had an accident - spurs2101
Hi first post.

A man hit my car last week and drove off got his plate though its all going through the insurance have also been to the police.

He said he didnt do it..but he did

My car is 12 months old.. someone has mentioned there is somthing like a black box type of thing that newer cars have inbuilt that they use against warrarnty claims etc...does anyone know what im on about pls?

I'm afraid such things do excist & they record speed, steering angle sensor, braking & engine speed etc & deployment of air bags. data can only be retrived with specialist equipment but if your in the wrong be warned! big bro is watching.

Only if the accident was severe enough to deploy airbags will the crash data have been stored.

There should be enough physical evidence, paint etc., left on both cars to settle the matter.

Ok thankyou

He's paintwork is on my car, but I doubt the insurance will look at that will they??

Anyway have witness so fingers crossed just wondered about anything else to help

Do you have legal cover included on your policy?

If so, tell your insurance Co. that you'd like to take advantage of it. They should then get one of their contracted solicitors to contact you. The solicitor will then handle everything.

If legal cover is not included you should think about paying the extra £15 or so when you renew your policy. It's well worth it when something like this happens.

A neighbours tearaway kid drove down the side of my parked car a few years back. Paint exchanged bothways, very obvious, police attended and took samples of paint. He denied involvement, police refused to take further and it cost me a £300 excess.

injection doc: im not in the wrong, i wasnt even moving, plus im a driving instructor by day so have every legal aspect covered.

My excess is tiny.

Only asked about date boxes, that it all..now i know thats sorted.
