hopefully someone can help, ive got a mk3 16v golf and on idle it seams to be misfiring, if i bring the revs up it clears until 3k, its the same when driving it as well, as soon as you get to 3k it holds back and splutters, ive changed the cap, arm, plugs and leads, any ideas would be great.

Check if there is a rubber damper/heat insulator between the inlet manifold and the injector body. The one on mine was split, an easy fix.

it feels more electrical i think, could it be a relay?

Check the wiring in to the airflow sensor - I had a loose connection on mine which caused all sorts of running problems on my VR6 of the same vintage

check for split breather pipe running up from sump. It may look ok untill you check it carefully. I expect it has a crack in it.

well it turned out to be the main relay for the ecu wasnt making a good contact, many thanx to replies.
