Hello all,
Just wanted to get your views regarding a problem with my Galaxy.
I purchased the car about 8 weeks ago from a used ford dealer (the car was ex ford direct) and to my shock noticed today that both the rear door handle and external trim have broken off at one end (The trim runs under the rear door handle and spans the width of the door).
From what I can gather, over time the door handle has become worn, and has eventually snapped at one side also taking some of the trim with it.
Just so you know, the door handle is electronic, so it is not supposed move as such but you grip the handle to put it upwards.
The car is about 13months old and still has 2yrs of the warranty left.
When I contacted my local dealer (who I purchased the car from), they were not sure if this problem would be covered by the warranty - stating that trim is only covered in the first year???
Now, I paid £22K for this car which is only 1yr old. Does this sound right, has anyone else had a similar problem?
Many thanks
Jimmy

I'd like to help but your message is a little confusing.
I too have a MK3 Galaxy but can't pinpoint what it is your writing about. What trim is it again? Why is your door handle electronic ??? Do you mean the boot handle?
The 1yr warranty on trim is correct although Ford Customer Services do have the discretion to grant upto 100% cost for replacement.
Also you paid £22k for I guess what is a 1.8 Ghia TDCI only 8weeks ago for an "07" plate? Why so much? What kind of extras could you possibly have that warrant such a high price?

Sorry for the confusion - appreciate your response.
The external damage is to the boot/door handle and the plastic trim located slightly to the right (the trim spans the entire length of the boot and goes around the handle at both sides).
Basically, the handle has broken off at one side - and the trim to the right of the handle has also come loose.
The Car is a TOP-SPEC Ghina with x-pac +many extras with very low miles hence the price.

When you pay over £20k for a car you would like it do the basics i.e. open a door without the handle falling off!

Ok I know where your talking about now but unfortunately I've not had that problem nor know of anyone else who has. Your best bet is to either ask your dealer to get in touch with Ford Customer Service and push them to assist in the repair cost or contact Ford yourself. You may well be in luck given your car is still relatively young and you only bought it 2 months ago.
Only problem I've had so far was a piece of plastic trim on the side of the windscreen flying off late at night! The Dealer replaced it F.O.C. even though it was outside the 1yr trim warranty you were talking about, although I don't think the costs of repair here are comparable to yours.
Good luck. Let us know how you get on.
