94 1.4 Petrol, possible fuel pump issues - speedracer
Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can help, my pug won't start even though the engine turns over and everything electrical seems fine.

I opened the top of the injector unit, where while running you can see fuel going into the intake. While a friend fired the engine I could see no fuel going down :(

Although this might not be fuel pump I am not ruling it out!

Also I have checked the fuses and they all seem fine.

If anyone has any advice I will be very grateful.

-meanwhile I am going to replace the fuel filter and check the 'out' hose of the fuel pump to see if any fuel is passing while the engine is being started.

Thanks in advance.

Latest Update,

I have now replaced the fuel filter and noted it had quite dirty fuel coming out when tipped on the 'IN' side (not to sure if this is normal).

Fuel pump looks to be fine as when the ignition key is turned it pumps fuel from the 'out' hose pretty furiously.

This all leads me to believe the fuel injector unit might have become blocked by something or it might just not be functioning properly.

Can these be taken apart and inspected/cleaned without much hassle?

Or will I have to get a replacement unit? and if so are they expensive?

Steady on; you have got a long way ahead of yourself.

So it cranks? Does it have a spark? Plugs wet or dry?

well if there is no fuel being injected (but the pump is getting a signal to prime) that he can see at the throttle body then the plugs wont be getting wet i also suspect that he wont have spark either i would guess that the crank sensor is the prime suspect ie in aint seeing the engine spinning so no injector signal and no spark

Screwloose,

Yes it cranks, I haven't checked the plugs as I've no special tool for em.

I'll be getting hold of one tomorrow to check if they could be the cause.

Cheers for your reply btw.

Sorry to post again but it wouldn't let me update the other one.

Cheers topbloke for raising a good point, I will check for spark tomorrow and this will hopefully help in finding the culprit.

Yes; I was expecting it to end up there too - after a systematic process....

Hi,

just an update as I have now fitted the new Crank Sensor I got. The pug fired up first time and looks to be up and running again! :)

I am very happy and would like to thank all who contributed to getting this sorted!!

THANKS GUYS
