I have a 1998 Diesel Astra which has started playing up recently.


On start it will take forever to turn and sometimes never turn and the battery will go flat and requires a jump start

OR

The majority of the time, the car will promptly start but within 10 seconds of the car having started the car, it will stopstall and then it's back to trying to turn the car over again. What I noticed is that when the car has started on the first attempt I put my foot on the gas pedal and the engine will not rev it's likely its not even registering in the car that I've put my foot down.

On both scenarios later on in the day, sometimes the problem will occur.

Could anyone point me in the right direction please as to what the problem may be. I have already replaced the spark plugs and the engine mgmnt light does not come on either.

Did you mean glow plugs? Diesels don't have spark plugs.

I new when i wrote it I had a 50% chance of being correct.

Sorry, yes I do mean glow plugs :)

sounds like air being drawn into the fuel system allowing the fuel to drain back, get your mechanic or local garage to check
