Where does the temp gauge on the dash get it's reading from? I thought it was the coolant temp sensor under the coil pack. but i unplugged that and drove the car, but the gauge on the dash returned to where it was before i stopped the car to unpulg the sensor.

For years, mine was, under normal conditions, in the centre. In the last year or so it seems to settle more towards the cooler side, and definitely fluctuates more.

Any pointers? Thanks.

With the sensor disconnected, the ECU would set a fault-code and use a default value - and share that with the gauge too.
