hello I've got apetrol astra estate that i would like to get to 200k (it's on 190) just to see if i can and because it's in quite good nick and i'm skint.
Anyway.. It was running fine until it went for an MOT recently and has come back running like a dog. It judders when I pull off, and sounds uneven when idling, feels like it's not firing properly. I've ckecked the leads are on ok and it shouldn't be damp as it's roasting for a change. The problem receeds after i've been driving for a while??
Could something just have been knocked during MOT??
Would appreciate any ideas with much gratitude.

The first thing to establish, is whether it's running on all cylinders - and if not, why.

check the spark plugs, leads, distributor, rotor arm, me thinks it could be your car is running out of sync.

cheers for the reply sajid, ive since changed 3 out of the 4 plugs (couldn't get last one out yet will do though and recently changed air n oil filters. If it's running out of sync or the cylinders all firing how can i get it back its normal state of mind?
Cheers for help

Thanks for reply SL, It is running but just not very smoothly to start, the problem does disappear after i've been driving for about 15mins. Could you advise on how i can tell if it's firing on all cylinders. I've changed 3 out of 4 plugs (last one in tight as you like, will get it out though) and it seems to be running slightly better but not fixed.
thanks for your help mate. F.

The quickest method is to pull the leads off one-at-a-time when it's idling roughly. That should show which cylinder is misfiring.
A compression test is always useful.
