1996 2.2 (Emina 3C-TE) - Won't start when hot. - emina in the south pacific
HELP! couldnt find emina in model drop down.. I think the previa is the same.. or similar
car specifics:
1996 Toyota Emina Diesel
KD- CXR10G- RRSET
3C-TE
2184CC

i know very little about cars in general im afraid, and i am having some problems with my toyota emina. It will not start when it is hot! If i take it anywhere i have to let it sit untill it gets cold, or otherwise it will not start.
I have been told a number of things, one of them being the fuel pump which i am told is electronic will need to be replaced. They are very hard to find here in Fiji which is where i live, and i have been told that its easier to replace the whole engine! seems a bit overboard to me!
My father priced one in New Zealand, where he lives and he was told that it will cost 11thousand dollars for a new electronic fuel pump. Yes 11thousand! Apparently it will have to come from Japan or something.
I am wondering though, if it was the fuel pump wouldnt it be playing up all the time? not just when it was hot?
Any other suggestions? the fuel pump was flushed out and apprently had a bit of gunk in it. We have had the fuel filter replaced aswell, also we have put in a new battery, and currently have the turbo timer disconnected, it seems to have been put in sometime after production and does not have a switch.
any suggestions would be great and muchly appreciated

thanks :)

Try the temperature sensor the one that talks to the ecu, not the one for the temp gauge.

These are a cheap easy fix the play up when cold or hot. good luck..
