An item on BBC1 news this morning said that only 1% of people who got parking tickets appealed against them but, of those who did appeal, 60% were successful. Clear message there - overwhelm the system, and money-grabbing sharks who run it, with a blizzard of paper!
|
Only ever had one parking ticket about 15 years ago - learnt my lesson and never had one since, but I do have a high level of sympathy for those who live in busy cities and have jobs which require them to park up on a regular basis, service engineers, couriers, builders etc etc - it must be a nightmare and whilst tickets can be appealed, who has the time or inclination? Read Pepipoo and see how long some cases take.
How anyone copes in trying to make a living in London which involves driving a vehicle in London is beyond me. With new CCTV regs I expect every cabbie in London to get a ticket in the next few weeks purely for picking up and dropping off passengers.

More red tape, more admin, more cost, no productivity.........

Maybe only 1% of people appeal parking tickets because 99% know they were caught parking illegally? The best way to avoid parking tickets is to park legally.
I know there are odd cases of over-zelalous wardens etc. which hit the headlines but appealing against a ticket when you were caught parked on double yellow lines seems rather pointless to me.

I agree UR but it doesn't say much for the efficiency of a system that, when any number of people query the validity of their penalty/ticket, 60% of them are proved correct. London cabbie on TV yesterday who paused (legally or not I do not know) to drop off a registered blind passenger. Got a ticket and despite offering the blind person's name and address got nowhere - of course.

as from today i wont be pulling into a bus lane to let an ambulance through or jump a red light
|
Quite so ZK. bloody minded, oppressive and heavy handed law enforcement will produce legitimate reactions such as yours. To be fair, jumping a red light, for any reason, is against the law, or so I understand.

AS i was trying to make a point , i would never jump a red light ... not even for the emergency services unless i was sure it was safe to do so , but i'm not taking a £60 hit for doing the right thing at the wrong time/ place
|
ZK - I wasn't taking a pop at you! I was just making the point that (SFAIK) it is an absolute offence to go thru a red light, for whatever reason. In these days of 100% inflexible enforcement of regulations I wouldn't chance it, under any circumstances. According to the law it is never safe to ignore a red light - perhaps DVD will chip in on this one.

What annoys me AS is the fact that there does not seem to be any Discipline Code in relation to these Civilian Enforcement Officers, who lets face it are not candidates from the Open Uni. Time and time again it has been reported ticktes wrongly issued, maliciously to meet targets and nothing done.
Further when LA have been shown to be in correct in relation to signing etc, they too walk away with impunity. They should pay a £100 surcharge to the alleged offender.
But lets face it, some regulation is required but in my book it should be fair. They would still make revenue because a lot of motorists bring in on their own heads and will continue to do so.
I always say its a good job that there are single doors on Toilets otherwise some would try and park inside.

Reading the text document, as I understand it, even being stopped with your engine running (say as if of you are dropping off, picking up or waiting for someone) could get you a ticket too?
|
the solution to it all is to create under ground parking, these regulations will not stop those that drive uninsured and fake number plates.
Just another tax on the motorist
|
Seen recently, three, yes three vehicles parked on the zig zag lines on a crossing approach all with the drivers sitting in the cars, 100 yards further along the road a very upmarket sports car pulled into a disabled parking area, the driver got out locked the car and walked of.
I dont have a problem with the new regs if it stops these types or makes them contribute to the general economy!
|
I don't think anybody has a real problem with the enforcement of the regulations - it is the total inability of the camera operator (probably working towards X? tickets to issue in a Y? hour shift) to see what is reasonable and what is not. Driver got a ticket for stopping in a yellow box and it was clear from the video that he stopped to avoid knocking down some knuckle dragging retard who had run in front of him! Good choice
- fixed penalty or dangerous driving
