Bought a car with no docs & "classic" ins advice - motorprop
bought a car off a decent chap exactly 2 months ago. He promised to mail through the docs to DVLA several times , but hasn't done so . He won't answer his phone to me . He's in Durham, I'm in London .

The car has had to be off road on a mate's drive , but I now need to run it . How can I get insurance & tax without the V5 ? All I have is one tiny sliver off his old V5

Finally, any tips on specialists on insuring ' classic ' ( pre 2001 ) Mini Coopers , and what is their annual VED ( 1275 cc ) ?

thanks

Use a V62 from the Post Office?

The VED will be £115 per year, and I can recommend Lancaster Insurance (01480 484848 I think) for the insurance. Generally you can insure a car as a classic if it is over 10 years old and not your main car.

Go to your local DVLA office and explain the situation and you should be issued with a replacement "log-book".

The whole point of the slip from the V5 is so you can tax it before the full V5 arrives. Insure it, take the slip to the PO with the MoT and cover note, and Bob will be your mother's/father's brother.
