Main reason for buying my Honda CRV automatic was ease of entry/access due to a stiff back. Now find that short seat squab causes bad ache in right upper thigh and knee. Any recommendations please for a car which will overcome these problems.

Volvo have a fantastic reputation for their ergonomically designed seating.
Without further criteria though, it's hard to give you a car. What else do you need from it? Size? Cost? Performance?

I know exactly what you mean and you should look at the Subaru Forester.

However for something more mainstream and equally comfortable (supposedly) you could look at the following: -

Ford C-Max
Citroen C4 Picasso 5 seater
VW Golf Plus

All cars which are slightly higher than normal but without the extra cost of 4WD.

Yes, can vouch for the C4 Picasso. Am 6ft 3ins tall with 33ins inside leg. Plenty of support for thighs.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply - it is appreciated. Volvo doesn't answer the problem as the saloons/estates are too low for exit/entry and the X90 is beyond my pocket. The sports seat package in BMW is a possible and I continue the quest!

Disagree. Had an almost new Saab 95 with the full leather option over Xmas. Seats were okay, and my mate found them fabulous, but my gf hated them with a passion. You can't move the headrests, and they were touching my head while hers was pushed right forward.

Conversely, the Astra hire car I've got now (1.6 Club) I think is okay, but gf thinks it's the most comfortable car she's ever sat in.

Try different cars - I love my Accord EX, gloriously comfy, others don't like it. And so on and so on. Seat comfort is a factor of whether you happen to be the shape of person a seat was designed for, so just keep trying them until you find one you fit.

Honda accord seats are superb (read HJ's comments).
They are made by shuckra who specialise in orthopedic seat design.
Good support all round (which is why I am suprised by your crv comments).
The squab and thigh support is 2nd to none IMO.

OP, before you start replacing your car, check out this and see if it helps.

Did you try out the X-trail? Husband has spinal injury and finds seats brilliant - especially the heated lumbar region seat heater - whereas he was less keen on the CRV we test-drove.

Pendlebury, I agree with you about the Accord seats. My point was that they are excellent IF you happen to be the shape of person they were designed for. It's completely impossible to design a seat that will fit a 5'0" lady and a 6'6" man equally as well. Therefore I was suggesting that the OP trys lots of different cars, as one is bound to fit..

I completely disagree - my 9-5 Aero had the worst seats I've ever had; made my back ache. I had the chance to swap the car after 3 months and grabbed it. The replacement, a BMW 3-series with sports seats was much better.

The best seats I ever experienced (and I've driven everything from £500 hacks to 30k+ uberwagens) was in a hired bog standard Pug 306. We had this car regularly from a local small time hire company - we Christened it the Val Doonican special edition as the front passenger seat rocked on its mounts - brilliant motor.
