Motoring link somewhat tenuous but pretty obvious. I wasn't aware of this before today.
From April it will be illegal to post anonymously to discussion forums promoting your own business.

Another great idea! That cannot be implemented!

99% of the time it is already implemented here.

Good grief. Of all the wrongs in the world in need of righting, they chose this one...

In earlier days, if a company played nasty with a customer, the poor chap could only inform his friends and relatives.
But thanks to internet, the whole world can read the story.
Now that's called free world :)

"From April it will be illegal to post anonymously to discussion forums promoting your own business"
Sounds fair enough to me

lol. That just about sums it up.
What are they going to do - trace your ISP and find a bobby with nothing better to do to go round to your house?

Exactly that, I should think. I would also not feel confident to bet against the possibility that some sort of DoJ (or whatever the Home Office is called this week) target will be imposed that means they jolly well will do it, as well.

The offender would be liable to civil proceedings too, and presumably damages in the event of making false claims about a product or company.
I remember reading of a case where a product had been widely endorsed on television by a celebrity, but it was established in court that the product did not do whatever was claimed. The celebrity was found liable for damages too.
I'm cautious now of endorsing things as "a major contribution to road safety" in case they are not.

Maybe, if the Police have 'reasonable grounds' to suspect you, they can steal your car from you like when they 'suspect' you have no insurance.
|
Pretty unnecessary law in many ways
I suspect most forums would react like this one has on the couple of occasions I have noticed this sort of thing.
Joining and posting a product comment the same day is a bit of a giveaway.

That's a fair point. The last few attempts at this sort of thing on here haven't been hard to spot. In one of them the guy even tried to claim he'd been trying to help - had to admire the cheek :-)

A lot of people say that this site is absurdly pro-Mondeo.
Now in Technical there are a lot of threads slagging it off in a concerted manner.
Is this an example of negative advertising or black propaganda? Are the thread authors all recent arrivals?
Just wondered.

That's not anon. It is though a conundrum, once you have promoted you own business it is no longer anon!
The issue they are after is saying ....
"Dave Jones Graphic design are really great you should try them - regards Cheddar."
.... without declaring an interest.
Beyond that it is down to site policy.

Cheddar has said on a number of occasions in the past that if you Google "Mondeo TDCi problems" it brings up the Tech board on this site, so I suppose that once a couple of people have posted accounts of problems, you'll inevitably get a fair few others coming along saying, in effect, "me too". Plus, I suppose, people whose cars aren't mucking around aren't all that likely to post questions on a board intended for technical help.
The thing that grated slightly was the theme of "mine broke therefore they're all rubbish" that seemed to run through some of the threads, when the problem in at least two cases seemed to be about 40% car, 60% clueless dealer.

I think this site has been infiltrated by a gang of Subaru Legacy "sleepers" who have been here years biding their time. Their posts are cunningly disguised subliminal messages that move the impressionable amongst us towards the marque. I fell for it last year and I read here a few days ago about some poor Mondeo owner becoming their latest victim.
|
LOL Neil, you've sussed it!

Led by that engineer chap who claims to be an all-time classic Lancia you mean?
Seductive stuff indeed, I agree.
|
I thought he was working covertly for Honda, because didn't he get the Honda Jazz advertising agency involved too?
;)

I bought my Legacy as a direct result of comments here and also got some very sniffy comments from a couple of people here when I suggested that someone who arrived and within a day was gushing on and on about a particular car (and who has since disappeared) might have been a little suspicious. They might have been genuine but who knows/cares?
The Legacy comments that made me consider a Subaru I think are genuine because the person who made them also posts knowledgably on a range of subjects. The mono-maniac comments almost always stand out as suspicious.
I work in PR and occasionally we have clients who want us to post comments anonymously and we tell them politely but firmly that it's a bad idea and we won't do it.
A law against it is pretty much pointless though.
By the way BBD - whose legs are those on your homepage!?
|
Now that will guarantee that everyone will look, standby for you hit rate to go up !
|
From the little piece I just viewed it is one of the most professional sites I have seen. Uncluttered.
Best regards.............MD
