Just discovered that I have won 10 quid on last nights Lotto. Just as well really because it's MOT time again and every little helps !
Yes, dear ol' "Betsy" ( yeah I know it's lame but we spend a lot of time together ) is going in on Tuesday for her MOT. Six years old and with 135k I guess I can't expect miracles although I'm not aware of anything untoward. I always get MOTs done 30 days early so that you get in effect a 13 month ticket and also get a month to arrange any work which may be required. It always occurs to me that it's a bit like going to the dentist ( which is also coming up this week )....you hope that the inspection fee is going to be the sum total of your outlay but you also know that if they do find anything wrong that it will probably be unreasonably expensive.
It's the inverse lotto effect. You buy a lotto ticket in the knowledge that there is a small chance of a profit. You book an MOT test or a dental appointment in the knowledge that there is a good chance of a loss !
Isn't January rubbish ? Having just got over the shock that everything SS jnr wanted for Christmas costs hundreds of pounds and involves memory cards ( whatever happened to airfix ? )....We now, as with many other self-employed people have to pay 2006/2007's tax bill.......oh and my VAT's due as well !
Just wanted to offer my services as a "wheelman" if there are any good bank jobs going down this week ? Would be prepared to throw in the use of the Mondy provided it gets through its test ;-)

My MOT coming up at month end also SS - I'm interested in the '13 month' effect though - doesn't getting it done (..and presumably 'stamped') the month early just put you back a month earlier each year - so next year it falls due, rather inconveniently, over Christmas? (or am I missing something here..)
On the 'wheelman - job wanted' point - I'm S/E also, and was thinking of putting together a little 'number' to tide me over the corporate torpor that besets my clients at this time of year.
However, (..and no disrespect to Mondeos - heaven forfend!) I was hoping to get a nice Jag Mk111 3.8 (red leather int./overdrive/wire wheels pref.) to do the tearing away up the A10 - wire wheels BTW, because I can stand the chrome wheel trims coming off when doing the obligatory 'screechy cornering'.
Offers Invited.

Ohhh....I remember that depressing time of year. When I first got Polo, his tax, insurance and MOT all used to come up in January. I switched the tax to 6 monthly, but it was still painful getting through January.
< smug > Thankfully, now I have a lease car I don't have to worry about any of that.. < /smug > Sorry!

Let's talk WB !
Seriously though, you can get your MOT done anytime under a calender month prior to its due date and still have it dated as per the due date. For example my due date is 14th Feb and I will have mine done on 15th Jan, if it passes the renewal date will still be 14th Feb 2009

Oh, I didn't know that.. thanks. I'll get mine arranged ASAP, so there's a bit more 'contingency' time.

Theres nothing to stop you getting it mot'd again in june (or any other month of your choice) so that the expiry date falls at a more financially convenient time.
|
That's handy to know SM. Hadn't thought of that. S'pose its obvious when you think about it. Thanks !

Have it done, then, every month providing you don't mind forking out £50 every time.

The MOT on my present car was in January so following October I had it MOT again so this year I can go for it in September and still get it dated for October - can now fix any problems in warmer drier weather - I have now managed to split MOT car insurance and road tax into different parts of year. now if I could just get rid of Poll Tax every month I would be quids in.

Most I ever won on the lottery was a 4 number win of £68 back in 1999. The day after the ignition barrel on my Fiesta went - £60 to fix! I haven't done the lottery since.
My wife's Aygo was new in Jan last year so December/January is insurance, tax and service time, fortunately it's only just over £300 for all three - that's the back pay gone!

Got £90.00 back on the tax of the BMW, SWMBO got done for speeding the same week. The only Karma to this was that Tracker refunded a full 12 months subscription despite me having renewed 6 weeks earlier. Fair dos as they say.
