1.9TDi - variable servicing - simon of norwich
My second hand 1.9 TDI is on variable servicing and the service indicator has now come on for the first time in my ownership. I would like to keep the car on variable servicing but dont like the high costs of the main dealer, whilst i can change oils and filters and check belts i need to acess the OBC? port to stay on variable servicing. Is there anyone out there selling the appropriate cable and software to do this.

you can probably reset the service indicator using the trip button & ignition key (i can on my golf)

If you do this, the vehicle will revert to the fixed servicing regime. VAG designed the system to keep the cars on variable servicing within the dealer network.

VAGCOM proprietory software is available from (I think) rosstech to perform a variable service reset together with lots of other useful diagnostic facilities.

Make absolutely sure you are using the correct oil - some of the VAG literature is wrong.

variable servicing - Screwloose

VAG have seen the light and quietly dropped variable Long-life servicing - unless the customer actively demands it. It just caused too many problems.

Reset it on the dash buttons and stay on the 10,000 interval that will give - that's more than long enough for the oil.
