Don't forget that the Peugeot 4007 and Citroen C-Crosser are clones of the Outlander. Mitsubishi will be dropping the VW diesel shortly and using the PSA diesel instead.

According to the link to Mitsubishi UK that I followed from the BR title page, the Outlander has a 'cleaver on demand 4WD system'. Had I known that as I kept pace with one along a congested M40 yesterday, I might have put an extra lane between us - although the two people inside looked amiable enough.
Have to admit, I've caught myself looking at the C-Crosser microsite recently and wondering if it might suit Family Beest's wish for a good four-seat load carrier that will comfortably take a fifth, and has a third row that is (a) usable and (b) leaves some luggage room and safety margin behind it. I could get over it being an SUV; the silly name would be a bigger deterrent - "What's that new car you've bought?" "It's a Citroen, erm... um... Thingy."
Citroen renamed its Evasion bus for the UK market; this was another case for the same treatment, I'd have thought.

"It's a Citroen, erm... um... Thingy."
Too late I'm afraid WDB - even before an esteemed poster here called the Citroen it, the name that sprang from my fevered Tourettic alter ego was 'Cross Dresser'. Mind you, could have been worse - thinking of what rhymes with 'Crosser' , herm..

have you looked at the Freelander 2 ? quite a motor and vastly improved. 2.2 PSA lump & shed loads of tourque 400NM at 1900 rpm. Citreon, say's it all with the name & I would worry about the quality. X trail is good but there is a little doubt as to how strong the powertrain is going to be & they only produce 320nm

Its not a Citroen - its made by Mitsubishi. But having said that, Mitsubishi don't do as well in JD power etc as they used too.
If you want reliability, I'd suggest the jury is still out on the Freelander - Landrover came bottom in this month's What car reliability report. But the Honda-CRV did very well.

According to the Press the VW diesel Outlander is not that good - the 2.2 Peugeot Diesel comes only in the top model listing @ £26K
The Peugeot & Citroen models have the 2.2 diesel and start @ £22K list - the Citroen Dealers are more likely to offer discounts - I tried the Mitsubishi dealers for a discount and got nowhere other than a nominal cut in the advertised price - I ended up with an X-trail.
So far the X-trail is fine - only 1600mls on the clock but in 44 years of car ownership I have had numerous early breakdowns including a tow back within 5 miles of the garage (MGB in 1972) - so fingers crossed.
