From the DVLA website, I see that if I wish to permanently import my LHD Skoda Fabia 1.9 tdi, I will have to change the headlights and speedometer.
Has anyone any suggestions about the best & cheapest way to go about this?
From a financial point of view, I think my car, 6 years old but in excellent condition, would be difficult to replace with an equivalent in the UK were I to sell it in Spain. Even if it costs a few bob to convert, I think it will still be cheaper than buying in the UK.

Roger I think you might be out of touch with UK prices.
There isn't a cheaper country in Europe to buy a used car than the UK

It does seem a bit daft in this day and age when many people live or work or just travel regularly between different countries, that there is not just a switch to convert headlamp beams on any vehicle. I know the technology exists as some cars/trucks have it, it should be standard fit in my opinion. As for the speedo, most UK registered cars have dual mph / kph markings I think. I have noticed though that LHD countries don't bother to fit mph conversions on their cars.
As its the weekend lets resurrect an old one !
" I heard the other day that Ireland is going to switch to driving on the right"
" Really - when ?"
"Well I gather they are going to move the trucks Jan 1st and if that works they'll shift the rest in June ! "
I'll go now.........;-)

There was a firm who made good quality tranfers to change the dial of a speedo in such a way that miles or KMs were the more prominent, as required. A forum search might find it - I am sure it was mentioned here in the distant past.

Go to a breaker and get a UK speedo at the same time as you get the headlights.

Why bother to go to the hassle? The UK car market is awash with s/h cars.

well i reckon you are wrong local yokel
first its nice to drive a left hooker in this country if you arent bothered about overtaking and he will have no problem selling it when the time comes if he markets it properly and leaves the continental bits in the boot.
in my opinion obviously

If it only needs an MOT when you import it, then you may be ok with the KPH speedo. I think the rules only say you have to have a means of telling the speed, not what it has to be calibrated in.
