2004 1.4 16v - throttle delay - bkran
Hello there guys and girls,
I am the proud owner of a clio 1.4 which has this kinda strange behaviour. It has a delay on throttle ( about half a second ) both on press and on release... This happens regardless of the temperature of the engine. I also have to add that this car has never changed anything but oil, hasnt done the mileage for anything more. Any suggestions, anyone?

Thanks in advance,
cheers

Why not treat the poor thing to a service then?
That would be a good start before digging any deeper!

Well, it?s not the time for a service yet... It has about 1500 miles for its first spark plugs change! I was just wandering if anyone has seen something like this before. Other than that, the engine works great, very nice performance and starts instantly every time... And I think I exaggerated in my previous post, he delay is less than half a second, actually about 2-3 fractions, but still noticeable.

Thanks again :)
cheers

No year; no mileage; no engine details - it could be anything.

Yes mate, you are right... I didn`t give out any details, sorry about that. Its a 2004 model with 17000 miles so far. The engine is the 1.4 16 valve. And as I already wrote in my previous post, the only times it has gone to the garage is to change oil up till now. The delay isnt that bad, I m used to it by now. This means it could wait till the service, I just wanted to find out if there is something I could check or try....

Thanks

1.4 throttle delay - Screwloose

That year and engine would suggest that the motorized throttle body is failing. It's a common problem on them.

You best move is to take it to somewhere that understands these issues and get them to re-adapt the throttle system and see if that fixes it; if not it'll need a new one fitting and adapting - and they're not cheap.

I don't know if this will be of any use but i have a 2003 1.2 16v and it went in last year for hesitation to my main dealer in Preston which discovered the Oxygen Sensor to be at fault and about usually up to couple mile after setting of from cold the engine wouldn't rev or pull the car in gears till it fixed itself after a minute or so. its highly inconvenient and cost £300 pound fix as (the diagnostic check is about £90, the Oxy Sensor is £100 as is labour and VAT).

Hope This Helps
