E11 1.3 4E-FE cold starting problem - Sprice
Hi all, I recently bought a Corolla (E11) with a 1.3 4E-FE engine. Nice car, but it wouldnt start this morning (and didn't even seem like it was close to doing so) but started instantly when I got home from work (even though it was still v.cold!!) and was just after some ideas.

I recently renewed the sparkplugs and HT leads and it runs great otherwise so I don't think its timing or ignition related? Do these cars have some sort of cold-start sensor?

Thanks chaps.

PS, no engine management lights are showing, and starter spins over nice and quick.

slt

E11 1.3 4E-FE engine cold starting problem - Aprilia
Could be a variety of things, immobiliser, fuel pump (or relay), crank sensor, ignition module...? Maybe do a check for fuel and sparks first of all..

Hi Aprilia, thanks for the advice, fuel pressure was another thing I had in mind!

I thought the 4E-FE had a distributor and rotor arm.
If so, if it was like my mid 90's Corolla check the condition of these as the end of the rotor can get pitted and rusty.
But as said, it can be many things, so need to work your way through all the possibilities.
I trust a squirt of WD or water repellent spray did not work either?
