This bit made me laugh, Her major inconvenience is needing the loo and so far she has managed by using carrier bags.
What!?!?

These parking rackets on "private land" are outrageous - I can see this being a target for the OFT at some point - credit card issuers and banks are no longer allowed to make up fees that bear no relation to costs, and neither should car park operators. Nor should they be allowed to levy "fines" as if they are part of the legal system.
The owners of the industrial estate on which my office is situated put £80 charges on cars parked without permission - they are never followed up if ignored, so perhaps that is because they do not have good legal status, and that is why other operators use clamps to take vehicles hostage?
If the police say it is a civil matter then they should keep out of it when somebody takes an angle grinder to the clamp - it is appalling that they should issue a fixed penalty ticket for that, when they essentially say the clampers can do whatever they want.

In Scotland wheel clamping is extortion and illegal. We seem to manage quite happily without them.

I actually fully support her. Not because she has parked where she shouldn't but because the clamping thing has got totally out of hand.
Clampers are wanna-be thugs who are paid minimum wage as they have no qualifications other than being fat, shaven headed and nasty looking.
I really dont understand why the clampers dont have to be licensed and abide by a code of practice.
By the way, I have never been clamped ; o )

"qualifications"
They have to be SIA registered now.
www.the-sia.org.uk/home/licensing/vehicle_immobili...m
So they have to be licensed as well.

PU I stand corrected on the 'qualification' aspect although in itself, the term qualification would suggest that you have attained a level of skill through an assesment that makes you 'qualified' to operate in a particular position and hold authority over others.
The link seems to indicate that the only 'qualification' these, err, operatives need is the ability to show a clean(ish) criminal record.
Mmmm
I am in the building trade and have been for 20 years.
The Federation of Master Builders is a waste of time but people think it safeguards them.
They offer no protection or insurance to the consumer. A waste of time. All they do is charge builders for a badge and nothing more.
We are brainwashed into thinking these self-styled organisations are here to help us but they offer nothing at all in the way of help
What a typical representation of the sad state this Country is in.

SIA isn't a self styled organisation its a Government body. (which may be a bad thing !) Seriously they are an official body in the same sense as the FSA, they were created by Act of Parliament and have enforcement powers.

She's obviously local and thinks she can get away with it.
I agree with bellboy, let her sit it out.

If it is illegal in Scotland, why not in England as well?
I support her, though! She wasn't actually blocking anyone's access and even agreed to pay the fine later.
|
If someone parked on your drive without permission you'd be suitably annoyed, whats the difference here? She is local and therefore probably knows all the legal parking spots, but would probably have to pay for them so she chooses to park on private land where she hasn't got permission to park to save some cash.
No sympathy with her at all, either park in a car park like the rest of us and pay up, or walk/use the bus.......

The Scammers and clampers out to make to money will always use the smallest plaque or notice they can get away with in order to ensure victims.
Genuine land owners, who just don't want people to pinch their spaces and nothing more tend to spray walls with "No parking" in large lettering all over the tarmac and walls. But there are still those who will park in these areas unless they see a clamping firm's sign.
The system that worth the best (IMO) seems to be padlocked pillars - OK the driver has to remove the lock, but no hassle with clampers or illegal parked cars.
Politicans seem to promise regulation on this issue, but I have yet to see anything that has had any effect. My Local town took the decision to remove some stretches of double yellows and replacing them with free short stay parking bays in addition to short stay parking on adjacent streets. A nearby town built a huge car park charging 40p / hour and double yellowed all the streets. Result was after a few years business is improving in my town and the other nearby town is turning into a ghost town (everyone shops at the nearby supermarket).

I work for a large voluntary organization and our offices have a car-park sufficient for our staff and some visitors-recently,more and more members of the public have been using it-if confronted we get abuse or excuses-"I put money in your collecting boxes" or "I am a Mason and we donate to your charity".They should not be clamped-their cars should be confiscated. Our car-park is clearly marked "Private Property-Authorized Business Use Only".
