Check your car on the Motor Insurance Database - NARU
If your details all match up, you've apparently less chance of being stopped at a roadside number check. Pretty low match rate for the marlot household. One exactly right, one showing as a different vehicle (but right make), one not showing at all.

Interesting and useful site.

Must be quite up to date:

- Checked the car that went back to the lease company on Monday (had for 4 years) and it is not on the list anymore
- Checked the new car I got on Monday and it is on the database

Check your car on the Motor Insurance Database - bell boy
thats the idea rtj70 it should be in real time, the only exceptions are like my insurance company, if i phone them to put a car on mid i wonder if its not actually put on till the end of the day with all the rest
if i had a posh motor trades policy i can do it online to mid direct but as im from yorkshire i use the old bone and save wonga (yearly)

That's good- the Y reg Focus Ghia I picked up a couple of weeks ago that was incorrectly described as CL spec on the V5 comes out as a Ghia. Presumably that's because I told my insurance company it was a Ghia when I updated my policy, despite the fact it came up as CL when I initially entered the reg on the insuarnce company's online form.

are you saying that it comes up with car details john m? all my vehicles are only confirming the registration and that they are on the mid
maybe i should check a neighbours car and see what it says,i was just frightened i might get a swat team at my door if i did

All our cars show model etc. on this site.

And I know the point is the actual insurance database should be very upto date - and this website seems to really access an up to date database compared to that used by RAC vehicle checks.

Still surprised the old car is not on there so quick though (company blanket policy for thousands of cars) as it will still be somewhere! Took away on Monday to the supplying dealership and will go to auction at some point (soon). But it's sat at a Mazda dealer and it's a Ford and belongs to Leaseplan.

rt as soon as a car is not required on the database i have it removed soonest
reason why?
its easy to forget to do it tommorrow

Bell Boy, But you probably have a few vehicles that you own at a given time. My employers has thousands managed/owned mostly by Leaseplan but soon LTSBa also. And we self insure with only third party covered by real insurance policy.

I'm impressed in our instance this is so up to date. So I'm not criticising just surprised something IT related works - I work in IT ;-)

are you saying that it comes up with car details john m?

Not exactly details- just Ghia 16v, not even engine size. Obviously the insurance company have more info than this, as I had to select my car from a long list of specs.

>> are you saying that it comes up with car details john m?
Not exactly details- just Ghia 16v not even engine size.

>>
Well my car is described as Mondeo 2.0l Auto Ghia X 4DR.
Just no mention of its colour. ;-l

But my daughters car registration produces just
" is on the Motor Insurance Database today" and a Big Blue road sign where the details are usually displayed.

So these are probably the extremes of detail in responses.

Now this is one site useful to have on the mobile phone so that you can check if someone is insured when they hit your car. I'll have to buy an iphone.

Only if you're a bit cheeky and say it's your vehicle, although I don't know how they could check whether you'd been honest or not, or what the penalty for fibbing would be.

My X-trail comes up correctly but the Micra comes up as a Ford Focus - which is surprising as the police did a check on my son when the CSO stopped him at the beach, and they didn't have a problem.
Check your car on the Motor Insurance Database - Cliff Pope
Volvo comes up as Torslanda 2.0 L injection 1993.
Triumph just comes up as "OK"
Tractor says 1949 Ferguson vintage agricultural machine.

It still doen't mean that the details are necessarily spot on with the DVLA ones. If I were flagged down in a random roadside check I would still have to explain that Massey-Ferguson took over Ferguson, and that Standard-Triumph took over Triumph, and that Torslanda is just a fancy name for "240".

But a useful snooping tool. I'll bookmark it, along with that site that lets you look up post code areas to see which houses are worth burgling.

Whew, just gone back and checked again and it came up correctly..... now was it my fingers or the site? ;~)

Wonder how many variants there are?

Mine comes up as an "other", no model at all.

Wonder why.

One of my cars comes up with all the details-capacity,model,trim-the other as "Ford Escort".Presumably,it only shows what was typed-in in the first place.

Tried my family's cars - all came up OK except one - and he has the Ins Cert at home.

Son did not appear concerned until I pointed out he could be pulled over and if he had no proof i.e. Ins Cert on him, then he could be made to leave the car or even have it towed away.

Why couldn't he be given a "producer"?.
Check your car on the Motor Insurance Database - bell boy
just had a friend in ,a motor trader, i did a check on his wheels,no record ,got him to ring insurer and the data base was right, his insurer had failed to notify the mid.
it is now sorted, just think if he had had a bump though.
a dammed good sight as i already said, just hope it doesnt go the same way as the free rac site due to too many hits

Because things do not work like that.
Tow it away and crush it is the preferred approach or at best pay up for removal and storage.

There was a recent example on one of the police programs.
Lass got stopped by ANPR cos no insurance according to the database.
She was insuredand prtestedwith no effect. Fortunately for her, her sister was able to immediately rush a copy of the insurance to the stop team thus avoiding all the aggro.

So well worth a checking the database, especially, if like me, I see plenty of ANPR vans and our local police cars are getting ANPR.

Hypothetically mind, would anyone here be tempted to report the local anti-social chav in his unisured car, having looked up the aforesaid's VRM on MID website & found it to be (apparently) uninsured?

>>Looks like all my previous bikes are written off :-( cars are still going though

My previous bike, a '52 plate Aprilia isn't showing on the insurance database. I wonder if that has been written off/stolen etc. It was in immaculate condition when I sold it a few years back.

Looked up my old company car which I changed two years ago which is shown as uninsured, yet on the DVLA website the tax is renewed every 6 months & is current until March 2008!!
