Rover 400 fob - Harty
Just bought an R plate Rover 400 (1400cc)
One key and two fobs supplied (only one fob works).
Two questions if anyone can help please:
1) Do I have to get a second key cut/supplied by Rover Dealer?
2) I've changed battery in dud fob following handbook but no luck. Is there any way of re-programming without paying over the odds at Rover dealer?

Thanks in advance.

Not 100% sure about the fob but I would think that it is one for the Rover dealer to sort out. The key you can get cut at most general key cutting establishments

Sorry if u already tried this...
Sometimes the fobs are out of sync with the receiver & can be resynchronised by locking the car then pressing the 'unlock' button on the dodgy fob 3 times. If the car unlocks then you're OK - else I'm afraid it's definately duff!!!!

This has happened to me when the battery started to go in a fob...

My handbook says, roughly

1. Carefully open the fob, don't damage the seal
2. Slide the battery out, don't touch the circuit board or contact surfaces of the clip
3. Press and hold each button for 5 seconds in turn to drain residual power from the fob
4. Put in new battery + reassemble the fob
5. Unlock the car using the key and then operate the lock button of the handset at least 4 times.
6. Fob is now ready for use.

This is from the handbook for a 'P' reg 400 - hope it helps!

Yep, spot on Nick. We do this daily and most spring back into life.

Sometimes locking the car with the key and using the UNLOCK button to re-sync the plip works if all else fails
