2006 Dispatch HDI- any good? - biker rob
Needing a replacement for the old escort estate.
I've been looking at a Citroen Dispatch van, 2006 plate 2.0HDI with 22k miles.
Any tips or things to watch out for?
I tend to keep my cars until they're ready for scrap, do all my own maintenance etc and need a van that isn't too big and can carry 2 off road motorbikes.
Basically - is the Dispatch any good?

My only experience is driving one we had as a hire 'car' in Tenerife - known over there as a 'Jumpy'. I thought it was excellent over three days, the 2.0HDi unit had plenty of punch and it wasn't much larger than an estate car so even on twisty mountain roads and parking in busy places it wasn't cumbersome. IIRC from quick calculations it did mid 40s mpg too.

Citroen/peugeot vans are usually very tough, simple and reliable and the Eurotaxi (converted in Coventry)is based on the 7 seater version of this van. (squillions of miles)
We have delivered hundreds of the things and everybody says what a cracker they are.
Glad you are looking at the HDI cos the non turbo is hopeless.

I'm assuming you mean the old shape which has been out about 6 or so years, cos the new shape was released either 06 or 07.

I have to say the new shape dispatch is a much nicer drive and pulls strongly but of course they will be higher priced, remember that when pricing the van you intend to purchase if its the old shape.

Funnily enough PSA van diesels always have more low revved grunt than the equivalent car or MPV and i much prefer the set up of their power delivery.

Bet if you get one you'll be on here waxing lyrical about it. Do let us know.

Cheers for the advice.
Bought the van - but because the owner removed his private plate, the log book is still on its way from the DVLC.
Until its in my hands - I didn't want to hand over the cash, just left a small deposit.
The van was as new, it is the old style - but hopefully it will serve me well as my old escort estate!!!!

Good luck with the van i prefer motors not too complicated and i think thats what youve bought.
Should imagine it'll still be under warranty for a while NOT that you'll need it.
