my 53 reg 1.6 5 door match golf. the re mote central locking will not work unless within 6 inches of a window i,ve tried the obvious by replacing the batteries in both remotes but it doesn,t make any difference. over to you screwloose!

Urggh! I hate security faults - I always fob them off to my locksmith...
Anyway; as far as I remember; the receiver is in the comfort module under the dash. If the remotes are OK; it must be that end.
Whether it's losing it's range i don't know; but it is scan-able and that's where I'd make a start.
Do you work in a high-emf envirionment? I've never seen this before; but there are anecdotal tales of remotes becoming degraded in high-security areas.

where,s my comfort module? have vw fitted an accessory i still have the pleasure to find! i live in birmingham & an electrician mate thought it might be to do with all the electronic signals flying around,he then opened his vw van from 10 metres!

You comfort module should be next to the steering column under the lower dash panel.
Getting it plugged-in and read is the first step.
