A friend of mine was issued with a producer last week and due to being away has only 2 days left to go to the station with his docs. Trouble is He can't find his license (still has the old paper type).
Anyone here know what happens in this situation, and what he should do?
Any help/advice would be much appreciated, especially from the Officers on here.
Thanks.

Tell him to go in within the time and tell them he cant find it and will be sending off for a replacement.
Its not a big issue anymore. The Police National Computer has a link to the DVLA database and his entitlements can be easily checked.
The seven day rule has become somewhat watered down. Its 7 days and if not it is 'as soon as practicable' and if not then its 'before the commencement of proceedings'.
Of course this all relates to a simple 'producer'. If its an endorsable fixed penalty ticket with a requirement to surrender the licence, it has to be done within 7 days otherwise the FPN is canceled and its a summons to court job.

Just take the paper licence. That's all I've got. They're trying, but have not yet succeeded in in making the "lasts till 70" licence a renewable, chargeable money spinner.

Sorry, I misread the OP, reading it as having lost plastic card, but still having paper - sorry.

i'll echo the above
not bothering to attend and 'hoping it will go away' or 'i'll sort it out later when the new licence arrives' will cause more problems.
if they 'produce' without the licence, explain why, they'll be reported at the front counter for failing to produce the licence...but...more importanly will have started some dialogue and will have provided a reasonable explanation why they haven't produced with the expectation they will soon.
when the new licence appears contact the dept dealing and agree to produce that..i'll be very surprised if the earlier offence of not producing within 7 days is proceeded with.
If you don't go in at all until it's too late, the danger will be that the 'system' has already started and it's too much hassle to stop it, (bearing in mind many of the staff will be junior etc) which will mean a court summons and having to explain to a magistrate all of the above.

Lost my photo licence (as in misplaced) recently - phoned DVLA, paid £22 by debit card over the phone and a new one arrived 3 days later....surprisingly efficient.
Original turned up a couple of weeks later.....but that's another story.
