I,m in the process of replacing my stereo in my van, the original CAR 200 being rubbish, I have a replacement but need to identify the Vauxhall wiring secrets. Can anyone tell me what the connector marked KL 15 is, it is on the bottom ISO block, the power supply block ? Also, what are the three connectors on the top block, my new stereo does not have any connectors here, they are marked DA, CL, and MRQ on the old radio ?
I,ll be grateful for any help, many thanks.

Are any of the sticky messages in the audio forum of VxON any good to you?

Thanks DD, can't immediately see the answer to my problem, but there are a lot of links there, so I'll keep on looking.

Think I've found the answer to connector KL 15, it has power when ignition is on, so I think it is the switched supply, so I just have to reverse it with the permanent 12v supply connector as they are both in the wrong place. Still don't know what the top three connectors are though. Anyone ?

The Vauxhalls I've fiddled with have had the normal ISO-looking connectors (2 blocks of 8), and a further similar block of 10. The block of 10 is for the dash display. As you've worked out, the switched and constant supplies are reversed on Vauxhall wiring - usually red and yellow wires (double check first though!). Snip them, strip the ends, put in a terminal block and cross them over. Easy.

Thanks for the contribution Greg, does that mean that the dash display will not work if I leave that block of ten disconnected ? Guess what, both the constant and switched supply wires are Red, the constant feed wire being much thicker! Talk about confusion ! Thanks again.

It should work, but it'll just display the time/date info rather than radio station. To double-check, turn the ignition on with the stereo unplugged, whatever happens then will happen with a non-Vauxhall stereo fitted. Sounds typical of GM having 2 identical-coloured wires for different power feeds! The ISO colours are yellow and red, but obviously GM knew better! ;-)

New stereo fitted and working, nothing else fused or not working, fingers crossed. You are right Greg, display now shows clock, temp, and date info.
Job done, thanks for all your input.
Up yours GM !
