hi, just wondering what, or which type of engine flush i should use, i want to do an oil/filter change and as i got some hydraulic tappet sounds in my mk4 golf ( 1400cc ) im told this would do the trick to quiet them down abit, but with so many on the shelf is there a recomended flush or are they simply all the same?
thanks

i wouldn't use flush just get the oil hot before you drain it. This is only my opinion tho :-)

waste of time.
Maker's oil filter a must and good oil. Change at 3,000 miles again and you should have cleaned out engine.

yes, i put in magnatex oil, then after 100 miles changed oil/filter and put in ducams oil ( sorry about poor spelling ) but still get the cold start tappety sound it goes away when engine is hot but just told by my local garage that engine flushing will loosen and remove dirt that collects above the engine.

None at all is best !

Forte flush is the best used it for years everyone of my customer has it on every service www.forteuk.co.uk/ or e-bay.

don't bother with the flush. I would check oil strainer in sump if problem persists or fit a new tappet set. You can take an oil pressure reading from the heads on golfs by removing second oil presure switch.
If you use a flush & your strainer is already restricted through gunge you will probably block it & sieze up! you have been warned.
If engines have been flushed from new on every service flushing isn't a problem

Forte is the one I use on all my customers cars except old CVH Fords, Follow it up with Forte Top End Treatment.

I never recommend using a flush of any sort unless the car has a speicific problem or is to be stripped down.
In your case you have a possible problem, but would try an oil pressure reading first. What mileage has the engine done, what oilused? how long since changed? was new filter used? Any other relevant info? etc etc.
If you decide to use a flush then use flushing oil, not any additive. Takes a lot longer but is far more efiicient.
But remember flushing an engine can cause as many problems as it rectifies.

engine done 113k miles, i got a sketchy service history so not sure how frequent the oil changes were in the past, when i bought the car i put in magnatex oil, then after say a few hundred miles i changed oil and filter with duckams hypergrade oil since i bought it, it always had the initial clicking sound when cold but dies away when engine is hot, but not really goes away, just when the engine is hot its quieter.
thanks

113k miles is not the end of the engine, but you have to accept it will have worn some !
Cant see flush helping in this situation. If noise is disappearing when engine is hot and oil is flowing better it sounds more like a wear problem than a sticking problem; But difficult to say for definite without hearing it.
Would suggest quality oil and filter change and if noise is still there then add some wynns hydraulic lifter treatment or similar.
Unless its a problem with how the car runs/performs I wouldnt try to fix something that isnt broken.

My way of flushing is to change oil in it,run for a week, then do another change always worked for me- especialy if the oil seems a bit grity through not being changed for years as I have come across :-(
|
I have tried wynns and it?s nothing on forte. I had customers complaining that I have not changed their oil, as it?s black when they check it. With forte it?s like water coming out and it?s steaming and the oil stays clean then. You can hear the difference after a good flush; even the drive is nicer. Cars that fail mot on diesels emissions I put forte in and it passes. Petrol Injection cleaner is good too. Love the stuff.

Everyone should have their forte
mines saving money
therefore an engine oil change on a car thats done 115,000 miles would be preferable to my pocket than washing all the bearings out with an engine cleaner

An old USA trick is to use auto gearbox oil, I think you add a pint run it for awhile then drain.
A search might bring up more info.
