Peugeot 306 (2001) - Remote locking. - Puggie
Hello
I have a weird problem with the remote (infrared) locking mechanism. All of sudden it stopped working. The battery is ok I have tried 2 new. I have also tried to switch the circuit boards with one taken from another keyfob. And it still won't work. The central locking system works well when using the door lock but not when using the remote.

I have been told that sometimes when changing batteries or pressing the open/close buttons erratically the transmitter and receiver won't "see" each other anymore and one has to code the key from scratch. This should be done by inserting the key and turning it to ignition without starting the engine (I'm a Dane so the technical terms are a little hard to get right :) ...). Then one should hold the lock-button (the big one) for 10 secs. This procedure should code the key so it can communicate with the receiver. But again this does not work for me either. I was told that cars having the Pats system can't be coded by home-mechanics? I don't know whether I have Pats or not? Can't see it anywhere...

But this leaves me with either a keyfob that cannot be coded by myself or a faulty receiver. Before I dismantle the receiver assembly could someone be kind to give me some advice with what else I could be looking at? Perhaps a different coding procedure than the one described? How do I check if I have the Pats system? On the circuit board from the key there are some engravings like "Texton" and "Fuba T". Don't know if that helps .... Also the key is a two-button key without a led. Big button for locking, small button for unlocking.

It's a Peugeot 306 from 2001, 1.6L (100PS version) 5door.

TIA

Has the car got a sunroof ? - is the remote sensor in the roof console ? Mrs PU had a 106 for a brief period which ruined its own sensors by allowing rainwater n through the sunroof.

hi no it does not have a sun roof. I have also heard that a sunroof could allow water to enter into the recevier. About the location of the receiver I have not yet disassembled it but I think it should be located in the roof console by the roof lights. Also I was thinking that perhaps the base where to the antenna is attached is leaky. Perhaps water enters there? But I don't no if the base is glued or screwed on?

My 51 plate was RF not infrared

Yes well I got that wrong it is RF.

rf fob can only be programmed by a dealer unfortunately

Ok well. I still don't get it. About the IR/RF part I'm not sure will have to check on that. But regarding the immobilizer (transponder) it works fine. I got a little dongle in my key which disarms the immobilizer. It's only the communication between key and receiver for the central locking systems that is at fault. I'm not sure whether you (thomp1983) got me wrong on that... Or do you mean that the programming of key to receiver can only be carried out by Peugeot?

the difference between the rf and ir fobs is the way they communicate the signal to the car, early 306's up to about mid 1998 use an infra red (ir) signal to transmit the signal to lock, unlock, deadlock to a receivor near the rear view mirror (Identified by a glass type bulb in the fob casing similer to those on tv remotes). later 306's used radio frequency signals (rf) to transmit the signal to the car. the plastic immobiliser transponder chip is completely seperate to the above. so far as i am aware only a dealer is able to program the radio frequency to the car to control the lock/unlock functions and as such you will need to see them. and as you have rightly said only a dealer is able to reprogram the transponder chips aswell.

hope that helps

Thank you very much for your reply, looks like I'm going to have to drive by my local Peugeot dealer after all :( It is RF, no led)
