Hi,
I'm sure that those of us who subscribe to bangernomics find breakers a good source of parts.
Question is, I'm trying to find a breakers that deals/specialises in ex Police cars. Do such places exist and if so do you have any leads.
I'm specifically after somewhere that deals with Omegas.
In anticipation.

why does it matter if the spares come from a police car or a normal car?
searching for 1% of total spares available just doesn't make sense.
Did you get that virus problem sorted out?

Hi,
Yes, the virus went away after installing Norton. I was one of many people who had it and subsequently distributed it.
Ok, the logic is that Police Omega's mainly have steel wheels & W rated tyres. These arn't fitted to normal Omega's and only exist in that config as the spare wheel on 3.0/3.2 litre models. Only the 3.0/3.2 have w rated tyres and have alloys - exept for the spare. Normal Omega steel wheels have V rated tyres which the 3.0 isn't type approved to use. Using v rated tyres on a 3.0 will therefore (technically) invalidate your insurance.
My logic is therefore that to get a set of said wheels/tyres - go somewhere that has lots of them - i.e. upto a possible 5 per vehilce.
Make sense?

If its any help i may have some original wheels for police Omegas and Senators,we used to sell loads of them and replace the steel wheels with alloys. I can look in my stores on Monday.
|
Oh yes please ......
I'm after wheels preferably with tyres if at all possible and need 3 or 4 with as much tread as possible. Must be W rated as I said in my earlier message.
Unused spares (s) would be ideal but probably unrealistic!
My current steel spare is marked as follows:
2150142 6 1/2 J x 15 H2 ET33 NU
Tyre is 205/65/R15 94W Michelin Pilot
Where are you located?
In anticipation.

Hi - did you get a chance to look?

Pot luck on this one. Police cars (all sorts) go for disposal at auction and are therefore distributed far and wide.

Do you already have alloys and want to switch to steel ? If so, turning up somewhere where they sell such cars and offering a couple of quid to swap could be good for both - since surely, normally, the alloys are more attractive to an average punter.

Good idea Mark - but I want a nd "low cost" set. I know of a number of people who have unresolvable problems with big wheels on Omega's. My logic is that by switching to smaller (but type approved) wheels I can eliminate wheels and tyres 100% Hence the Police car trail - the tyres must be W rated.
|
I know we've discussed this before Robert, I had very bad tramlining on my MV6 and it was solely the tyre replacement which fixed it. But I kept to the manufacturers spec (i.e. size and Z?) rating, albeit a different make (got B F Goodrich) which seem fine in all conditions. Still using the std Irmscher alloys.
My guess is you are barking up the wrong tree if you replace them, but I am no expert. And they are such pretty wheels too, how could you think of putting steel on?
|
I've met a couple of people that have never got rid of "vibration" problems with 17" wheels on Omega's. I don't suffer from tramlining. This way I can eliminate the wheels/tyres once and for all and hopefully not for too much cash.
If I can't fix the problem the car will go - I do a lot of motorway driving where the problem is worst.
The Irmscher wheels look good, but I've replaced two due to buckling already & won't be putting more money down the Irmscher route.
I've had numerous Omega's and never had problems before - they had either 15 or 16" wheels.
Hope this clarifies things.

If you can find a way that you....
>
> can eliminate wheels and tyres
> 100%
.... do let the forum know how.
Even on my Citroën DS banger I only ever managed to drive with one wheel eliminated. (I don't think the CX or XM can do this, etc etc). Though I did see a spoof car chase film once where a DS was driven with no rear wheels.
Has anyone noticed that Omegas hve recently become the new Cits on the Forum?

Thats easy - replace them!
I think Omega's will become much more prevalent due to the crippling tax paid by company car drivers as of last week. A lot will start appreaing onto the used market.

Hi Robert,
Very sorry to hear about your problem with your Omega, its such an excellent example of the type.Good luck with the wheels.

Yeah, those ex company director cars make cracking buys, because their drivers usually have less punishing schedules than lesser mortals, and they usually respect their cars and see that they are well maintained.
