Affter three solid weeks of car hunting and trawling the internet, I've finally found a replacement for Mrs MLC. Decided a Picanto was too small. I was scared off the Punto reading the owners reviews on What Car and the regular tales of head gasket/steering column failures on the Fiat Forum. Couldn't find a decent Nissan Almera and a 54 plate Mitsubishi Colt was sold.(which was my preferred choice)
So I've bought her a 2005 54 Plate Hyundai Getz 1.3 GSi. Two years old with 26000m from a Hyundai dealer. It's got three years manufacturers warranty remaining and a years RAC recovery. Ended up p/xing the 02 reg Fiesta plus £800.
Not the most dynamic of cars, but at least there's some piece of mind for the next three years. And I can finally relax and look at something different other than shopping chariots on my days off.

Not the first choice for anyone who enjoys driving but its a solid tool to do the job rather than anything remotely exciting.
My sister had one and liked it ( a 1.3 CDX ) but sold it after 6 months because she found it too underpowered.
She reckoned the diesel or 1.6 would be the best choices but couldnt find one to replace hers.
